A not so great repair job!
here is a AEL 327 on my company's building in Springfield. The door failed a few months ago breaking the lens. Someone decide to just place a new lens in it and tape it up thinking that 3M 33 black vinyl Tape would do the trick. Well looks like round two is about to happen. Good thing is I told building Maintence about it so Hopefully they will fixt it right.

That is just stupid... Rolling Eyes

National Grid will do that if the hinges break on a small light. A medium or large light is too heavy for the tape and the tape will stretch like it did here....

ummm we have a dayburning AE 327 with 1000 watt merc and its hidges is broken so it got the tape, and its been holding up VERY VERY well for about 3 or 4 years very nicely!

I find electrical tape is like duct tape for linemen, I've seen it used to: tape closed handhole covers, tape closed doors, tape over the window on PCs, tape temp wires onto stuff.

Funny thing is that they have spare 327 doors in the stock room, why not use one of those. Rolling Eyes

There's a Cooper Lighting OVX in East Deer PA that's been taped up with electrical tape for ten years or so.

Wire works much better......

I have held and tried out those eletrical tape the linemen uses....its very wide and reallllly strong tooooo!

The hinge holders on the top housign may be broken. A new door can't fix that.....
gailgrove   [Sep 27, 2011 at 08:31 PM]
He said the door was broken.
streetlight98   [Sep 27, 2011 at 08:36 PM]
It looks like the replacement lens is broken as well.
gailgrove   [Sep 27, 2011 at 08:37 PM]
That looks to be the gasket to me.
streetlight98   [Sep 27, 2011 at 08:39 PM]
Now that you mention it, it does.....
joe_347V   [Sep 27, 2011 at 09:39 PM]
There's a R47 here with a dangling gasket but the refractor is still tightly in place.
streetlight98   [Sep 27, 2011 at 10:02 PM]
That occasionally happens here to. It's probably because the lineman shuts the light and the loose gasket gets stuck.

I've noticed alot with cooper fixtures having this problem.
streetlight98   [Sep 27, 2011 at 11:36 PM]
The coopers had a flawed hinge design. It was redisigned a few years ago though. i've never seen AEL or GE with that problem though. As you can probably figure out, I more of a GE guy over AEL or Cooper. I do like the AEL lights too. AEL has the most options which is why they're my second favorite light company.

I'm working on McCann Lighting's first LED fixture. It utlizes a poly refractor to actually distribute the light instead of having poor, spotty light. I personally don't think it's a bad design, for an LED light. Personally I'd rather see the LEDer on the road than any of the other LED fixtures. Mine has a drop lens. Smile
