GullWhiz   [Jul 28, 2010 at 08:42 PM]
It's just an inanimate thing....
lite_lover   [Jul 29, 2010 at 12:41 AM]
Maybe so...but lighting enthusiats are more sensitive to this kind of lighting injury LOL.
joe_347V   [Jul 29, 2010 at 03:01 AM]
Yeah especially the time I saw a smashed OV 25 from a pole knockdown Shocked
gailgrove   [Jul 29, 2010 at 05:01 PM]
The ballast was probabley dead any ways (I can't see any blacking of the arctube) I also get sad when I see smashed cobra heads, in fact a larger Powerlite (I'm about to post a picture of) Fell over a few months ago that made me really sad Sad

There was a Westinghouse OV-15 streetlight in Bethel Park PA that was knocked down because some idiots decided to race and the guy lost control and hit the pole and he's in serious trouble too. It makes me angry when I see good lights getting destroyed because of wreckless people who have no regard for anyone else.

I don`t mind it so much if its a OVX or OVZ or 115 but it really bothers me when its a Powerlite or Westinghouse Mad

And what's worse is when a light gets damaged, a high pressure sodium streetlight will be installed since mercury vapor replacements are no longer available. Confused

That or a Metal Halide...or Fluorescent bucket

And trust me I can be sad too when I see lights fall down or break or get removed....but I don't let it affect my life Wink I don't start to lay in bed and go lifeless...just over a light Very Happy

I wasn't happy to see a Silver Remote photocell GE M-250 from my previous hometown get replaced all the sudden...it worked the week before when I saw it....

Also MV replacement is actually still available.....usually in smaller hardware stores such as Ace and others from their stock!

The electric company from north of my electric company near Delaware and PA actually still replaces some mercs with new merc fixtures.......but it is slowly being numbered and more limited....but they are still doing it...the fixtures are OVG with sag lens and MV....On my way to NYC...for my vacation I saw the OVG with sag lens and coated mercs with blue 17 NEMA tags!

Well don't get me wrong Jace, I know there are some things in life that you can't control but I just don't like what our governemnt is doing but there's other things I focus on rather than lights such as paying my bills and making it to work on time etc.
Form109   [Aug 01, 2010 at 02:24 AM]
Reguarding this Ban on Mercury Lamps...the Goverment would see more Results by trying to improve the Effiency of HVAC in the united states....that's what Eats Most of our Power.....in some Places Current Draw is so Heavy from Air conditioners in the summer that it causes the Powerlines to Sag into Trees and fail.....the Failure then Cascades down the Grid til everyone is in the dark....now...i dont know of any light causing that. Rolling Eyes

The cool thing is that Globe Electric still make and sell mercury yardlights! As Globe is mostly selling on the Canadian market, they're one of the very few companies it was still lucrative enough to keep making them.

We sadly can't do much against the lights changeover, the most important is to save as many as we can for ourselves. In the context of that changeover it's quite easy. Wink

@Vince yep I see most Rona stores still stocking the Globe mercury yardlights, but other stores that sold Heath/Zenith and Regent stopped selling them in around '09 or so, a year after the US ban.

I definitely agree with you about saving old lighting stuff too. I recently bought a couple of 175W Regent mercury yardlights for my collection so that I could stock up on MV lamps and ballasts. I also got a couple of 347V F40T12 ballasts even though I don't have a use for them too keep as a collection piece too.

Mine was also a yard blaster, it was a Health Zenith that I've since gotten a bigger refractor for,
