I noticed that in Toronto there are some 1960's era Crouse Hinds and CGE ped signals retrofitted with timers too. It's interesting since the timers are probably the second retrofit they had. The first was a retrofit from text WALK/DONT WALK lenses to the Hand/Man lenses and the second was the retrofit from incandescent Hand/Man to LED Hand/Man with timer.
Yeah I was never around for the walk/don't walk but almost half my life i grew up with the incandescent hand and walk. I noticed Toronto doesn't replace an entire intersections signals unlike what happens here where all ped signals get upgraded. I find it odd that the oldest CGE's in the city are the only CGE's retrofitted with LED Timers
UPDATE: these exact 2 CGE signals were replaced yesterday with Fortrans. For weeks these 2 signals were bent and aiming towards the ground. The other 6 CGE pedestrian signals are still in good shape and are still in service.
It sucks now because those 2 fortrans ruined the frequency. IMO they should have fixed the 2 CGE signals up and remount them
