Yikes!
I guess someone thought it would be a good idea to put a 1KW MV lamp in this much smaller fixture, I have to disagree!

My powerbracket which is 400 watt had a 175 watt and powered it for maybe 10 years at the least....and possibility more....the arc tube is bulged but it works!

Those 1000w lamps generally aren't cheap, and anyone who doesn't know anything about HID lighting could tell this is the wrong size bulb....so what kind of moron WOULD do this? Oh yeah...I guess I did this once, for purposes of a photo... Wink

Lamp change FAIL! Common sense should say this is much larger than the original bulb so maybe its not the right one or how about the fact it sticks halfway out of the fixture...umm hello?

I found a 175 watt mercury vapor lamp in my 250 watt mercury vapor streetlight 9 years ago.

Thanks guys, I have found a 100 watt HPS lamp in a 150 watt cobra head and a 250 watt lamp in a 200 watts fixture, I can't understand how any one could do this either Rolling Eyes

I don't see this very often in my area but I have underun HID lamps before for testing Shocked though but I don't run the lamps that I have a proper ballast for like this. I guess if I saw someone use a 1000w lamp in a smaller fixture I would "correct" their mistake and snag a 1000w lamp Very Happy
gailgrove   [Aug 23, 2010 at 01:08 AM]
This place was closed so I couldn't correct this.
Tmcdllr   [Aug 23, 2010 at 01:36 AM]
Too bad
I would have liked to have seen someone wire up an H36 ballast to this.
mercuryvaporrocks   [Aug 23, 2010 at 01:49 AM]
Some people don't even bother to read the labels on the lamps which is why it's a good idea to put wattage tags on them so people don't get mixed up.

wont the Heat of a 1 KW Lamp Melt or at the very Least Deform the refractor?
Tmcdllr   [Aug 23, 2010 at 04:17 AM]
YES!
GullWhiz   [Aug 23, 2010 at 10:10 AM]
nope it won't if underpowered....
Tmcdllr   [Aug 23, 2010 at 10:19 AM]
That picture just makes me laugh every time I see it.
streetlight98   [Nov 02, 2010 at 08:32 PM]
Why would someone buy a more expensive bulb? I could see a 175w bulb in a 1000w fixture, even thought it's still just as bad.............................
gailgrove   [Nov 03, 2010 at 09:50 PM]
My guess is they figured bigger lamp more light Rolling Eyes
joe_347V   [Nov 03, 2010 at 11:25 PM]
Well at least they didn't change the ballast too. Imagine the 1 kw lamp running at full brightness in this bracket light Shocked
gailgrove   [Nov 04, 2010 at 09:19 PM]
It wouldn't really be any worse then a 400 watt HPS and this can handle one of them Wink
streetlight98   [Nov 04, 2010 at 11:55 PM]
Poor bracket, looks like it has a tumor. Sad
gailgrove   [Feb 23, 2011 at 07:16 PM]
Update: I went past this light last night in the dark, it doesn't work (not that thats surprising) Neutral
Sailormoon_01_uk   [Feb 23, 2011 at 08:04 PM]
Not only that as a US 1000w MV lamp runs at 260 volts 4 amps, aas the lamp warms up it will extinguish as the arc tube voltage rises and the cudrops.

All the Best
