My New 125
Yet its really a 250 watt one, what I believe happened is the company was told to put up a 400 watt temporary light but since they didn't have any they stuck new 400 watt labels over the 250 watt ones to pass inspection, this was the same on all the lights that said 400 watts at there yard same deal with my 115.

That's kinda odd that there are fixtures with the wrong NEMA tag and you happened to grab two of them...what other brands/models of fixtures were available there when you picked these up?
Form109   [Jul 14, 2010 at 12:09 AM]
i Would keep it....or have the Gull Fly it down to me. Razz

Thanks for the comments, What I believe happed is (they where on a temporary traffic light pole) so I think the city required them to put up a 400 watt fixture but they didnt have any so they simply put this label on it so they would pass inspection Rolling Eyes Lets see there where OVXs OV-15s R37s more 115s and 125s and a few R47s @ Form109 like I said I will try to trade it in for a real 400 watt 125 and simply get a 250 watt 115 with better wiring Very Happy

Keep it and just change the ballast.
gailgrove   [Jul 14, 2010 at 01:48 AM]
Well if there are not any other 400 watt ones I might do that but other wise it goes back!

Give it to Ian...he's desperately looking for a 250 watt HPS ballast...

I have a 175 watt GE M-250R1 with a 100 watt NEMA tag

The only thing is I told the guy I would only take two lights so I have to give it back if I want another one Wink

That's too bad...I guess then it wouldn't be possible to also grab one of the OVX's then? I would still like to get one of those.

It's kind of interesting that they would stick a 400w tag on a 250w fixture, if they don't have any 400w 125s and 115s you could always swap ballast at the yard with a couple of 400w fixtures. Very Happy

I guess that this light was on a pole like this one.

OK guy an update; I went to that yard only to discover most of the cobra heads have been removed Neutral (Darren all the OVXs where gone) any ways I looked at all the other remaining 400 watt cobras where the same deal as mine being they where 250 watt fixtures with 400 watt stickers Rolling Eyes there was only one other 115 and it was in worse shape then mine so in the end I ended up keeping both the cobra heads Very Happy Maybe some day I'll change out the ballast to a 400 watt one Smile

Excactly How hard would it be to Peel the Nema Label off?...i imagine the Adhesive is Pretty Stout (No Elmers Glue There) Laughing

I wish here in the UK we had these types of Street Lights, where you can use either a Elliptical or Tubular Bulb allmost all modern Street Lights are designed for Tubular Bulbs but most cases you can fit a US ED17 or European E54 Bulb in them bus they look lost is say a fitting designed for a 250/400w Tubular Sodium Lamp, Older Street Lights from the 1990's and Earlier were designed for Either Elliptical Bulbs or Tubular Bulbs which makes them Ideal to convert from HPS to Mercury or Metal Halide by simply changing the Ballasts etc.

All the Best

Thanks guys, @Colin this fixture can handle a BT/ED 37 in 400 watts.
Sailormoon_01_uk   [Jul 15, 2010 at 02:08 PM]
The nearest Lightin the UK which can accept the ED/BT37 Bulb is the GEC Z8430CM see HERE, but the ballasts are fitted remotely say in the base of the Lamp Column, also you can't use the US Lamps in it, unless I change the socket, this is due to the Lamp socket is a European E40 type,

All the Best
