A HUGE Holophane Unknown Model fixture
Those I believe are for 1000 watt HPS!!! You have NO idea how big they are! Those were made by Holophane and seems to be the bigger version of [url=http://www.galleryoflights.org/mb/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-7870] Holophane Vector.....[/url]

I did not know how big they were until someone showed me a picture that was clear on HOW HUGE they are!

Well I know Kopp and Corning makes traffic light lenses so they're slightly related to lighting.
GullWhiz   [Aug 15, 2011 at 01:23 AM]
Pyrex used to make Westinghouse and AE refractors from the 60s
This Silverliner has the Pyrex refractor made specifically for Westinghouse (as it says on the rim)

this is a Holophane light. Acuity brands (owns AEL and Holophane) Moved around the products. These were everywhere here a few years ago but with lighting upgrades on the interstates, these are going.
gailgrove   [Aug 15, 2011 at 01:58 AM]
How can you tell if it's Holophane of AEL?
streetlight98   [Aug 15, 2011 at 02:03 AM]
The label inside i guess. There currently made by Holophane so that's what I go by. all in all, this is an Acuity Brands light.

No these aren't made at all any more, it is a different model - the Vector that is still made by Holophane. They only go up to 400 watts too.
streetlight98   [Aug 15, 2011 at 02:12 AM]
Those ones above are 250w HPS here. The ones here might be a bit smaller but not as small as the vector.
GullWhiz   [Aug 15, 2011 at 02:46 AM]
I see those fixtures seem to be in the same group/row as the Vectors. Those ones above seem to be very high wattage, the 1000 lamp will EASILY fit those. The refractor itself is between 2 to 2 and half feet tall judging the picture I saw from someone who showed me pic of the size....Yep refractor size is same size as the WHOLE COBRAHEAD!
joe_347V   [Aug 15, 2011 at 02:47 AM]
The AEL catalogue I linked to said that they came in 1kW configurations.
streetlight98   [Aug 15, 2011 at 02:48 AM]
could make these in LPS too.
GullWhiz   [Aug 15, 2011 at 02:51 AM]
LPS would have to be BASE UP......now I am NOT sure where the socket is located in the pic...but I think the socket is actually in the BACK of those fixtures with the lamp top going towards the refractor!
streetlight98   [Aug 15, 2011 at 02:56 AM]
the ones here have the lamp mounted in the refractor base up. I'm sure these came with different lamp positions though.

That would be me that showed the gull that pic. I had no idea how big these "ugly" things were either.
streetlight98   [Aug 15, 2011 at 02:14 PM]
I don't think these are ugly. More like Unique to me. Probably because these used to be everywhere on Rhode Island's interstates.
GullWhiz   [Aug 16, 2011 at 03:33 PM]
Those things look like they are standing on the side of the roads....LOOKING DOWN at you!!!!!
streetlight98   [Aug 16, 2011 at 03:36 PM]
They are kinda creepy looking. Laughing The ones here are grey. Only like five are left here though. Maybe I'll try and get one.
joe_347V   [Aug 16, 2011 at 03:37 PM]
They look a bit odd, even odder than those robot looking Holophane fixtures on I-190 in Buffalo.
