DTL DP124-2.6
Got this on eBay. My first Dark To Light photocell. It has the 2.6 footcandle turn-on level, which I like because the lights come on earlier. Made in May 2008.

For me the later the better becuase it puts less wear on the lamp and ballast and it saves $$$.

I like streetlights to come on very early, I like the 8 foot candle ones best personally, we have some here!

8 foot candles?! Shocked Those must come on long before dusk. There are some lights here that come on really early and don't even shut off if it's overcast outside. They're white colored and are either Fisher Peirce or Ripley...
gailgrove   [Mar 08, 2012 at 10:15 PM]
Yeah they come on at least 45 minutes or more before dusk, if you think those come on early how about 35 foot candle ones? Shocked
streetlight98   [Mar 08, 2012 at 10:18 PM]
They make those? What's the difference between those and a shorting cap? Shocked Laughing What's the range PCs come in?
gailgrove   [Mar 08, 2012 at 10:23 PM]
Yep! They are for aircraft warning lights which need to be on very early and go off very late, or stay on all day if it's dull. From what I understand the go from 1 FC to 35 FC, you can see this spec sheet showing the levels.

Ahh. Thanks. I always thought they just covered the window partially for those...

How do you tell what footcandles do PC activate at? Anyways the electronic ones have a adjustment knob inside which I guess adjusts which FC do they turn on at.

Ripley electronic photocontrols can be ordered with as low as a 0.3 footcandle setting.

@Joe - It says in the specifications and part number. For example, in "DP124-2.6-TJ", 2.6 indicates the turn-on level in footcandles. DTL photocells most commonly use 1.5 ftc turn-ons.
joe_347V   [Mar 09, 2012 at 04:43 PM]
Ah thanks, I'll take a look at mine when I get home today.
gramirez2012   [Mar 09, 2012 at 04:54 PM]
Also, some photocells (usually cheaper ones) don't have specific turn-on ratings, instead they'll say "1-3 ftc. turn-on average".
