I was thinking, that could a ceramic metal halide bulb work on a regular metal halide ballast? What do you think?

A regular CMH lamp operates on any pulse-start MH ballast. You can't run them on MH ballasts without ignitors though. Philips makes CMH lamps that are designed to retrofit into MH or HPS fixtures though. They're like $50+ though.
