Also grabbed in a fixture from the dumps. The fixture was smoked, but I still gave it a try and grabbed the ballast. Good thing I did!

I have one of these exact CGE ballasts too, but sadly mine was burnt out before I got it. I also have two working older single lamp CGE gold label ballasts from the late 1960's too.

Yeah, I have the two-lamp version of it (not the above one, but another one from oct. '71), but was unfortunately half-dead, so I took it apart, but kept the housing for the label. I have another one, the bronze label version of yours, from August '68, it works like a charm! It even stays cold!

Wonder why it says, "NOT FOR RESALE"...Cool ballast!

I guess this is an OEM ballast. That or they don't want 3rd party companies to resell their ballasts and make a profit off of them. I know GE marked their older street light ballasts with "NOT FOR ORDERING" because they were OEM. I'm not sure what the big deal is about having separete lines for OEM and replacement parts. Confused IMO there should only be one product line.

What does OEM stand for? Pardon my total ignorance...
streetlight98   [Jan 04, 2013 at 02:21 AM]
I think it's "Original Equippement Manufacturer". Neutral Not totally sure myself actually. Laughing i know an OEM part means it was factory supplied with that fixture (or whatever the case is).

I see...thanks for the info...
Is it just me or is this a galvanized case? My dead (heats the cathodes but buzzes loudly) KeyStone NPF ballast has a galvanized case (look on my LG account; I'm ace100w120v on LG)

Nah it's just you, this ballast has a regular black case............
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Jan 04, 2013 at 03:16 AM]
Must just be dusty then...
streetlight98   [Jan 04, 2013 at 07:32 PM]
it has that galvanized look to it though.
joe_347V   [Jan 04, 2013 at 11:47 PM]
Heh it looks like the ballast is dusty. Laughing

In that case Vince you need to get out the feather duster. Razz Laughing That's be cool to see a galvanized steel ballast case! I know there were a few ballasts that were unpainted/bare back in the day but I wonder if other colors of paint besides black were evere used on magnetic ballasts. I know electronic ballasts are white and black.
