12" CGE Pedestrian Signal Here's a nice old CGE pedestrian signal, that's in need of some fixing up. The visors still needs some more work and a new coat of paint inside, not sure if I'm going to paint it. Doesn't installing the count down module require running wires from the main controller to the module so the module knows what number to start counting from? Or is there a dial to preset the number it shows to the number of flashes?

Separate countdown fixtures like those in the bottom section of a two-section signal have 3 wires, orange, blue and white. To count starting at walk, you tie the blue wire from the countdown fixture to the blue wire supplying the walk indication and tie the orange wire from the countdown and orange wire from the hand supply. White is neutral and tie together for the return to the cabinet.

To count only in flashing dont walk (not in walk), leave the blue wire from the countdown disconnected.

The electronics for counting are within the countdown fixture...there is no additional wiring needed at the cabinet.

Some of the older countdown modules had wire jumpers and/or DIP switches on the back to change the counting settings. Newer ones don't seem to have them anymore.

Some of the newer ones have them. Mine does but the features are minimal...just counter on and off, or test display 88 continuous.

The DIP switches allowed for everything to be wired then you just select what functions you wanted. Whether counting was to occur during walk or just in flashing dont walk was one feature.

Other features included flashing the numbers in sync with the flashing hand, stopping counting at 1 (4...3...2...1...dark) leaving "0" lit all the time. There were also test functions, lighting 88 steady, and on some models, lighting each segment one at a time and scrolling at 1 second intervals.

Yeah, signs seem to be more common than signals in antique stores. Usually only a few have signals and even fewer have streetlights. O_o

Yep. I've looked at a good spot with a lot of stop, warning and speed signs, and there was a light which belonged to perhaps a yard lamp or inside a shed.

Ahh, I'm a couple of years younger than you but I guess with finding this stuff it sometimes comes down to luck.

Sorry 13*. You may be actually older than me instead. But I've got the brain of 23 years. Also the lamp may need some rebuilding, as wires need to be sorted, probably a 75 watt bulb, and a repaint. Not sure about the repaint.

Yeah Joe's in his 20s. Me and Andy (another member) are 15 (i'll be 16 May 2014). Yeah I know what it's like not being able to have good access to lights. It seems up in Canada you guys are at a disadvantage because unless you find a local listing, you can easily end up paying more for shipping than the actual cost of the fixture you're buying.

Well my friend jake's dad I think has a LFE poly 12-8-8 signal in his garage. I think it's either incandescent, or has the dialight lens. All I know is that it isn't their new ones, because they don't have the flat lens with the grey fading the colour when it's off. Reminds me of Intelight a bit.

Yep, I'm in my early 20s. As for access to lights, it seems buying locally and Kijiji is the best choice here for lights. eBay is too expensive for lights because of shipping, even parts costs quite a bit to ship too.

eBay is an American website, so their shipping can take longer time. I'd like to get those fluorescent street lights like near the old beach close to my place. The light is still there fortunately, just instead mounted on a fresh new pole. Gull seems to not come there much though. Razz Seems to be near the mercury vapors near a beach on Barrie, Ontario.

I find with eBay it really matters where the seller is too, Canadian sellers and US sellers close to Ontario usually get their stuff to me in a week give or take a day.

Fluorescent street lights are quite rare around here too. I only know of a handful still in use.

I found a bunch of low pressure sodium 75 watt yard lights near the warehouses. I might buy one of those for my basement, next to the HO scale table.

Not yet. I'm just figuring out the uploading. Since we are working on a deck, I may go there again. The best place to find them is Rona or Lowe's. Idea Idea Idea Idea

Uploading is pretty easy, you just click on the UPLOAD FILE link on the top bar, click "Browse" in the file upload box. Find your picture using the file browser window that pops up. Repeat for any other pics you want to upload. Click continue, wait for the pics to finish uploading, and then add a title/description for each pic.
