Workbench ballast display - better view with the SUN! ^____^
God, it's been like three weeks since we had sun here!

So, you can see the ballasts that don't work, but are reused as decorative items in my workshop. And you can see some of the writings on the stamped GE ballast!

A nice group of vintage Canadian ballasts for sure!

That stamped ballast looks pretty cool, was it a earlier design than the bronze/silver/gold label ones?

Probably. But curiously I have another ballast with a printed label dated 09/58. It doesn't have the bronze/silver/gold label designation, but its 16A240 model number supposes it's the ancestor of the silver label ballast.

BTW I just checked the stamped ballast again, and it's dated 12/60. Knowing my earliest B/S/G label-era ballast is dated 03/62, it means this era began sometime between '61 and early '62!

Cool! I have a few stamped US GE ballasts from the 50s and earlier but I also have some with labels.

UPDATE 01/04/11: I tested the middle ballast (with short wires) today, using european connector, and IT STILL WORKS! No ground fault or anything else! You can see it in action, running a pair of Philips F40DXs, here .

Darn CGE ballasts XD. Many of them just don't want to die!
