Philips 2X F20 Ballast Here's a Philips F20 ballast that has two sets of date codes, one set reads 08-95 while the other set reads 089, I think it should date to August 1995 but I don't know what the second set of numbers is for then. The fixture this was in has a date code of 980309 but I guess it most likely a '95 ballast. The fixture is NOS so I can't use the dates on the lamps as a guide LOL. Keywords: Gear

Could a two lamp 20w T12 ballast run 1 40w T12 lamp?

thats a good question, i will try it when i get home, i think you would have to run the lamp between the red and blue leads and cap the yellows

A four lamp F32/t8 ballast can run 8 F17T8 lamps right?

I wouldn't be so sure... seems too simple to be true LOL. I know that F20s and F40s run at slightly different currents, not sure about F17s and F32s.

Well Vince, I have had bought a cheap workshop light...and it had an electronic ballast that on it said it can run F40T12 25 watt, F40T12 34 watt F40T12 40 watt F32T8 32 watt Rolling Eyes

@Jace :That's ballast will run all lamps arround 32-34 watts maybe 250mA if that , if it's RS it won't dammage the lamp underpowering it

Rolling Eyes I have a couple of cheapo home store specials that have a similar ballast.

Well at least they used a standard ballast mount so I can stick a good ballast in when it blows.

@streetlight98: you can run a F34 or F40 lamp between the red and blue leads , and in terms of the instant start T8 lamps they run at the same current 230mA (I think) so you can run them in series

That was my guess since the two lamp trigger start ballasts run the lamps in series which means that they should have a higher OCV which should start the F40s. Note that the current is a bit lower than a single lamp F40 NPF ballast (.65A) so I guess any F40s you run like this will be underdriven.

I'm not sure about the HPF trigger start ballasts though.
