Two 100W HPS Thomas & Betts 113s
In Providence outside the hospital where my grandpa is being held. He had a couple of potentially deadly blood clots but he's on coumadin to thin his blood out. the one on the 6ft tapered elliptical faces towards the road (check out that interesting looking speed limit sign!) and the one on the 8ft underbraced upsweep lights up a grass lot in front of the hospital. It was probably a drop-off zone for rescues at one point... It doesn't work but it should since it has a regular PC and not an open cap. Unless it was physically disonnected but that's unlike NGrid, they either "red cap" it or remove the whole thing completely.

What arms does NGrid currently install in newest installations? I would think the tapered arm is the newer one....
streetlight98   [May 29, 2013 at 11:06 AM]
NGrid installs 2" thick 6ft upsweep aluminum arms with M-250R2s for 50 and 100W HPS, OVZ for 250W, and M-400 for 400W. for metal poles they use hapco 25ft poles with 8ft truss arms. the tapered arm is probably from the 60s whereas the underbraced arm looks like it's from the 40s or before.

I have also seen a few times NGrid install newer tapered E arms as well but it has been spot installs.

ahh not here. they somtimes install tapered ellipticals like above but i think they're used brackets.

Tapered ellipticals are as common as gulls here and in lengths ranging from 4-16ft.

yeah almost every arm in your pics is a tapered elliptical. Razz Laughing

we have quite a variety here since there is 8 different utilities in my area.

I think most of the utilities here standardized on using tapered e arms some time in the late 70s or so.

There is some variety here though as the older s braced and double guy arms are still in place and some davit and truss arms are used on freeways.

here i think Narragansett Electric used what ever they could get the best deal on. They had used tapered ellipticals in 6ft and 8ft, cantilevers in 6ft, underbraced upsweep (used back in the days of remote ballasted clams and tears) in 6ft and 8ft, non-braced upsweep in 6ft just like what's used today, and truss arms in 10ft and rarely 8ft too.

For metal poles, this was what was used: 4-5ft-ish somtimes 6ft tapered elliptcal 25ft poles, 8ft truss 25ft poles, davit 25ft poles (9ft usually, sometimes longer or shorter davit arms were used), 6ft and occasionally 8ft and rarely even 4ft underbraced upsweep 25ft poles (back in the days of the Form 109 and OV-20), double guy upsweep and tapered elliptcal arms in 8ft, and maybe a couple more lol. Everything listed here is aluminum.
