OVH drop lens for a spot replacement
Unusual (so far) spot replacement in the city of Brampton, Ontario, Canada using a cooper OVH with a prismatic lens. Almost New York style! I wonder if this is just a case of using whatever parts available for a relamp. Excuse the poor camera phone quality.

This kinda looks like a OVZ to me. I can't tell though. The OVH is only available with a flat glass. The OVG was available in drop and sag glass. In this picture the OVZ is on the left and the OVG is on the right. Or, the light above is a Cooper OVX The light above should be one of the three.

It looks like a OVH/OVG to me, according to all the spec sheets I have seen the OVG doesn't come in drop lens (the OVZ is the drop lens version) therefore this is either a OVH with a drop refractor added, or it is a custom order.
@Matt, where is this light? I'd like to check it out sometime and confirm what it is.
streetlight98   [May 12, 2012 at 11:28 PM]
@ Niall, the OVG was available in drop lens. It's only made with sag glasses now. It likely is an OVH with a replacement drop lens, but then you run into that gray area about Cooper using different names for different optical configurations. Laughing

Since the door isn't flat on the bottom i'm convinved this is and OVZ or possibly an OVX.
gailgrove   [May 13, 2012 at 04:56 PM]
I'm pretty sure this is a OVG with a drop refractor, I actually saw another one today though I didn't get a picture. If Matt tells me where this is, or I figure it out (once I get my computer working again) I will be sure to get a picture of the side.

gah! I stopped getting the email that says when someone comments on my uploads! ...to the settings page!
I was blinded by the sun observing this, but I'm very sure the body here is an OVH! Maybe since it's also the canadian unpainted style, it really made it hard to tell it apart from an OVZ. I remember when I saw my first OVX, I thought it was an 1980's powerlite Razz.

@Niall this rarity for us is on van kirk just S of sandalwood. Best of luck identifying the difference between OVH/OVG models that look entirely alike to me! Where did you see your additional spotting of this kinda thing?
streetlight98   [May 17, 2012 at 07:38 PM]
@ Matt; the OVH and OVG have the same exact body, it's just the refractor that's different. The OVZ has the same top housing as the OVH and OVG, but the door is different.
m@   [May 17, 2012 at 08:08 PM]
@sl98, I've always been curious if the OVG/H and OVZ shared the same top housing, and the shot you shared really puts it in perspective too. I guess we will never know 100% if my shot is of a OVH with its lens switched for a drop lens or if its an OVG LOL. Cooper and their frankenlights bahaha. kind clever, but now I wonder what's the point of having different bottom housings.
joe_347V   [May 17, 2012 at 08:29 PM]
Hmm, I thought the OVG was a OVF body but with a drop lens fitted.
streetlight98   [May 17, 2012 at 10:20 PM]
At Joe, you're thinking of the OVD. IMO, there should still be an OVC, OVS, OVM, and OVL. Surprised It's seems pointless having different names for lights jsut becuase of the refractor.
Antstar85   [May 18, 2012 at 12:48 AM]
By the angle of this light, I'd have to say this is an OVG. The door on this light looks deeper than the OVZ.
streetlight98   [May 18, 2012 at 01:45 AM]
Hmm. This replaced a Powerlite R37.
joe_347V   [May 18, 2012 at 02:21 AM]
Hmm, they should have given it me...so I could convert it to MV. Razz Laughing

But still, at this rate I wonder when all the Powerlites will be gone. Rolling Eyes

Thanks Matt! I'm going to go by there this weekend and get a picture. I haven't been online due to computer issues and school work (way too much). Ironically I am now online during a blackout, for now... Shocked
Update: I went past this light and got a picture at a better angle, it is a OVG for sure! The picture isn't great but it should be good enough to prove what it is. I'll upload it once the power comes back on - I'm now being tethered by my dad's phone, the UPS died.

hahaha I'm really struggling with getting notifications of when comments are added....

@SL98; I think it's awesome you used scenery (or powerline details?) to find the location of this fixture based on only knowing the intersection near by.
@Niall; I think it's awesome you went on a light scavenger hunt because of what I started. But hey it is a hardcore lighting blog after all! Share your pic Very Happy. I had an internet blackout myself.
@All; It's an OVH with a refractor lens popped in by the installer LOL... or an OVG...
joe_347V   [May 21, 2012 at 07:34 AM]
I believe you only get the notification only for the first comment made after you posted. If you're talking about the blank ones...well that's a different story since those depend on who made the comment.

Mike's google map's link (like 5 lines above) imagery has been updated to be better than my crummy cell picture.
streetlight98   [May 21, 2013 at 08:06 PM]
yep it seems they changed the streetview link i made. Interesting how in my area we have misty, blurry streetviews from 2008 and some areas don't even have streetview and up in Canada you guys are getting new ones put up about every other year lol.
joe_347V   [May 22, 2013 at 06:57 AM]
Yeah they updated everything over the last summer. The original set was from spring-summer 2009 and the new set is from anywhere between summer 2011 and spring 2012.

And yeah our streetviews get updated often for some reason, while I think some of the ones you linked are the old foggy ones. Razz
