A not so great repair job!
here is a AEL 327 on my company's building in Springfield. The door failed a few months ago breaking the lens. Someone decide to just place a new lens in it and tape it up thinking that 3M 33 black vinyl Tape would do the trick. Well looks like round two is about to happen. Good thing is I told building Maintence about it so Hopefully they will fixt it right.

The newer Cooper hinge design is better than the older one, the older ones broke more often than the newer ones.

Has this been fixed?

Just saw this light last week, still looks just like this. Rolling Eyes

Rolling Eyes Maybe when it falls a second time they'll change the door.

I don't know what is so appealing in repairing everything with electrical tape! Less expensive than replacing parts, yeah, but seriously, some electricians are just not proud of their jobs! I've still not completed my class and I have already seen so many jobs that were horrible. Last one was an outlet with reversed wires (Black <-> White). I simply removed the outlet and let the piece of cable unchanged, I think I'm gonna take a pic of that Laughing

Although it doesn't beat the second last horror I've seen last week: live NMD cables cut short on a breaker panel! Shocked and a loose neutral busbar XD. Fortunately all of that was at school in my home automation module's cabin, so I was there to fix those LOL.

Personally i see electrical tape as a temporary fix, but some people don't treat it as one. Rolling Eyes The one thing I hate about electrical tape is that it's not stickey enough sometimes. Mad

*UPDATE* The door has fallen of again and now is just up without the door. Funny how we the electric company just can't put up a new fixture. It's not like we don't have any. Laughing Neutral Rolling Eyes

I've seen street lights lose their doors too in my area and they're never replaced until they fail.

The comment of mine above from 27 Sep 2011 at 03:02 [quote] ummm we have a dayburning AE 327 with 1000 watt merc and its hidges is broken so it got the tape, and its been holding up VERY VERY well for about 3 or 4 years very nicely! [/quote]

Well I guess now it's a nighttime-friendly light now. Laughing

I can't imagine how bright 1000w HPS is. Also, those AEL 327's are pretty expensive fixtures...
streetlight98   [May 26, 2012 at 09:27 PM]
It's like a huge fire inside a cobrahead. Laughing
Antstar85   [May 27, 2012 at 01:03 AM]
They are super bright, It's tough when your going up a pole at 2am to refuse a blown cutout and have one of these bad boys blasting in your eyes.
mercuryvaporrocks   [May 27, 2012 at 01:19 AM]
Those 1000 watt metal halide cobraheads are very bright too. Recently New Kensington had a 400 watt HPS streetlight replaced with a Cooper Lighting OVL 1000 watt metal halide streetlight.

Yeah I guess the only 1000W lamp that I wouldn't classify as a mini sun would be MV lamps. I think PSMH lamps are the worst 1000W lamps in terms of eye sores becuase the glow is so concentrated in that tiny arc tube that PSMH lamps have.
