It's no wonder utility companies avoid these, I've seen alot of modern metal halide lamps fail prematurely.

What a odd looking lamp, I actually thought the one in my pic was a defective MH lamp. Laughing

The shape makes the arctube look of center.

Recently, I have noticed some of these bulbs are used out in the sidewalk fixtures at Southern Polytechnic State University where I currently attending. I'll let you guys know how long it last Razz

Those bulbs are used in my area.....I have noticed those are a bit greener and a little dimmer than most common 175 watt MH....so a bit of a clear MV "look" but the problems with those are early failures so far from what I have heard and seen....only few months....

Why did they make the lamp shape like this? And I can see why these lamps suck. I bet lots of them are out in the parking lot where that OVX was at,
GullWhiz   [Dec 28, 2011 at 08:55 PM]
I am not sure why it was shaped like this..

I've noticed that Toronto uses quite a few of these oddly shaped lamps.
GullWhiz   [Dec 28, 2011 at 11:05 PM]

I've been running across a lot of inferior GE MH lamps over the last couple years. Recently, when I got those low bay MH fixtures, there were some GE 400w cram lamps and they were in bad shape. Some even lost the outer vacuum for reasons that elude me. And the 175w cram lamps have been horrible too. They only last a few months...the batch that I had. The others...the arctubes would bulge easily or darken way too fast. ugh.
streetlight98   [Dec 28, 2011 at 11:53 PM]
Time to start using Phillips or sylvania lamps. Razz The GE HPS and MV lamps NGrid uses here seem to do well considering everything is all EcoJunk now...
