The LEDs only light a fraction of the area the HPS would and the LEDs are very blueish. You read my mind correctly.
joe_347V   [Sep 17, 2011 at 06:35 PM]
Yeah, I don't like the light distribution of most LED lumes, and don't get me started on the "white" LEDs that look more blue than white. Rolling Eyes

Looks like someone's meal is in the road too. Neutral

Mmmm... Who's hungry? Laughing

Hey I like the bluish glow! There was some kind of discussion somewhere about Japanese putting blue lights near the railroads because it was said blue lights helps prevent people committing suicide!

Well the LEDs, means use more streetlights! A benifit for US...we get to see more poles! Even using 2 streetlights still uses less energy than HPS Smile

Add a refractor, maybe it will spread even more!

Plus I would pick blue over orange anyway!

I noticed a parking lot several miles away from me that had all their HPS fixtures replaced with LED's.

I personally prefer induction and metal halide over these LEDs. My eyes are allergic to glare bright little dots of lights! Very Happy

Then Dave stop looking at traffic lights!
joe_347V   [Sep 18, 2011 at 02:10 AM]
I prefer seeing CMH and induction lights to LED, the LED traffic lights here sometimes have a pretty big colour variation...the greens can range from green to bluish and the LED pedestrian signals range from white to bluish white.
Silverliner14B   [Sep 18, 2011 at 02:13 AM]
Thats right I am still not a fan of LED traffic signals they are too bright and glary at night but oh well gotta live with it.
streetlight98   [Sep 18, 2011 at 02:13 AM]
I like metal halide over HPS. I believe that with some more design changes, LED could become the universal light source for any application in the distant future.
Silverliner14B   [Sep 18, 2011 at 02:24 AM]
How can LEDs be universal? They can't replace incandescents in ovens, never will be. Additonally, traditional light sources are not going down without a fight. Sylvania now makes fluorescent lamps that last 80,000 hours, thats longer than any LED fixture designed to replace fluorescents.
streetlight98   [Sep 18, 2011 at 02:26 AM]
Never did i say i wanted it to happen. I don't want incandecent, fluorescent, and HID lighting to go.
joe_347V   [Sep 18, 2011 at 02:30 AM]
I don't think traditional light sources will go away that quickly since they still have practical uses and light sources like incandescent will probably still be used for decorative purposes.

And I never really did like the LED traffic signals in terms of appearance they're too glary at night and some look like they flicker, but they do use a lot less energy than the incandescent signals.
streetlight98   [Sep 18, 2011 at 02:46 AM]
I only like the non-pixlated LEDs. I don't mind the brightness, althogh at night it's a bit powerfull. During the day especially at sun set and sunrise, you need it brighter or else you wouldn't see what color it is.
Form109   [Sep 18, 2011 at 02:49 AM]
the LED Traffic lamps with individual diodes visable are pretty much out of the picture now...you don't see them new anymore,it's all about the incandescent look ones.

LED's work great for Indicators,Flashlights and Traffic signals...i don't see them for roadway lighting.
joe_347V   [Sep 18, 2011 at 03:06 AM]
I still see them all the time and a GE RX-11 got installed recently too if those those count as pixellated LED signals. Razz

But almost all new LED installs are incandescent look except for bi-colour arrows, ped signals and countdowns.
streetlight98   [Sep 18, 2011 at 03:11 AM]
The bi-color ones here are non-pixlated.
LilCinnamon   [Sep 18, 2011 at 05:57 AM]
I choose LED, I prefer those colors over HPS. xD
Form109   [Sep 18, 2011 at 06:21 AM]
even though its white light im picking HPS because its HID and LED Streetlamps are Gull Choclate. Razz
