Correct me if I'm wrong but that looks like a MV ballast?
streetlight98   [Aug 31, 2011 at 11:28 PM]
Maybe. I can't tell ballasts apart. All ballasts look like coils of wire to me.
Antstar85   [Aug 31, 2011 at 11:44 PM]
It's hard for me to tell since I've never worked on a MV 125 before.
TiCoune66   [Sep 01, 2011 at 12:05 AM]
Well it's either probe start MH or MV, since there's no ignitor.
Antstar85   [Sep 01, 2011 at 12:07 AM]
I wish I could see an earlier 125 MV ballast and compare.
streetlight98   [Sep 01, 2011 at 02:11 AM]
Well, Alex (mercuryvaporrocks) has a 400w MV 125.
joe_347V   [Sep 01, 2011 at 02:17 AM]
Well it does look a lot like the MV ballast in Alex's 125 but mounted sideways...
Antstar85   [Sep 01, 2011 at 02:22 AM]
Well the size looks the same but his has more taps than the pic of this one here. Honestly I still don't know?
streetlight98   [Sep 01, 2011 at 02:24 AM]
His was also CWI, this looks like CWA. Probe MH ballasts and MV ballasts look very similar if not identical
Antstar85   [Sep 01, 2011 at 02:26 AM]
Well this isn't helping me........lol
streetlight98   [Sep 01, 2011 at 02:29 AM]
I'm assuming it's metal halide because the lamp won't work as great on a MV ballast
Antstar85   [Sep 01, 2011 at 02:30 AM]
But it could be a clear MV lamp?
streetlight98   [Sep 01, 2011 at 02:32 AM]
Nope. A mercury vapor arc tube is longer. This one's fat and short like probe MH ones. PMH ones are small and round.
Antstar85   [Sep 01, 2011 at 02:37 AM]
Ok I'll take your words on it. I'm viewing this on my iPhone so it's hard to see the tube. but the ballast still remains a question but I guess it could be MH, just never seen so little wires on a MH ballast.
joe_347V   [Sep 01, 2011 at 02:45 AM]
The lamp does look MH to me since I can sort of see the white paint on the ends of the arc tube.

MH lamps do occasionally run on certain MV ballasts though, here's a pic of one in a MV bracket type fixture.
streetlight98   [Sep 01, 2011 at 03:06 AM]
Well, my yardblaster runs a 175w MH lamp just fine. Those china blasters overdrive the lamps anyways.
mercuryvaporrocks   [Sep 01, 2011 at 12:43 PM]
This looks like it's metal halide to me.
tpirman1982   [Sep 02, 2011 at 01:00 AM]
Correct, mercuryvaporrocks. It is Metal Halide. I've seen 'em lit one night. And the they have red 40 tags. That proves they're metal halide.
GullWhiz   [Sep 02, 2011 at 01:21 AM]
Remember NEMA tags are not 100% correct.....Usually 99% correct or so
joe_347V   [Sep 02, 2011 at 01:26 AM]
Yeah, I've seen fixtures with incorrect tags before as well as some others here.
