My Westinghouse OV10
This is a true American Streetlight. Here's my 175w mercury vapor OV10. The PC and lamp came with it. I got this from a very nice electrican who is good friends with my uncle. He added a cord for my and wired it. This thing is almost silent and the optical part was very clean considering its age. Any infor on the OV10 is helpful. Any pic requests are welcomed.

This is the Intergratel ballasted version of the OV-10...It is a clamshell with a built in ballast. I have a remote ballast clamshell which the front part is very similar or the same....but no box area...just a small slipfitter attached...

Those came out around the mid to late 1950s.....at that time...low wattage MV was not really on a high demand which is why those aren't too common.

The OV-14B is the very very first small sized cobrahead to be created...but I believe those clamshells were still being chosen over the OV-14B...the OV-14B was not very common in the USA but very common in Canada. The newer version of this fixture is the OV-12 for the USA though.

I really like this luminaire. Very Happy And yup, internal ballast. The ballast appears to be painted red too.

Of course it's the red varnish Westinghouse uses....how big is the ballast though? My OV-14B is from 1957 (yup the same year first cobraheads were made).....and the ballast is HUGE.....I am not sure if yours is the same ballast...yours may be smaller and in HX style instead of a regulated ballast like my OV-14B has...

goodness gracious (faints) Shocked
streetlight98   [Jun 01, 2011 at 09:22 PM]
Jace; Mine is HX, yes. It's very flat and is about 4 inches by 3 inches by 1 inch. Also, do you know if these were painted or bare?
Devonte; Yeah, I didn't see this one coming either Laughing
GullWhiz   [Jun 01, 2011 at 09:24 PM]
oh they were BARE!!!!! BARE BARE!!!

The ballast...sounds very much the same type of ballast my Westinghouse MO-8 and the Westinghouse RMA-10 NEMA head has! They are flat too!
streetlight98   [Jun 01, 2011 at 09:28 PM]
Ok. There's a textured finish to it, I like that. They sure don't make lights like this anymore.
GullWhiz   [Jun 01, 2011 at 09:32 PM]
You know I think they stopped making those fixtures when OV-12 came out but they continued the remote ballast OV-10s....see the catalog here from 1963 see here

Interesting. These were very short-lived then. I sure got a rare light.

VERY COOL! I know some of these were used in Rhode Island, maybe a few are still in use.
GullWhiz   [Jun 02, 2011 at 12:29 AM]
I know those were also used in Washington State....Washington state used power packs!
TiCoune66   [Jun 02, 2011 at 12:56 AM]
I know one non-ballasted OV-10 still in use about 5 miles away from where I got my OV-20!

You were lucky to get the ballasted version!

@ Form109; Sorry Embarrassed Devonte, right?
@ joe_347V; thanks. I've only seen one or two of these in person before.
@ Niall; thanks
@ Dave, yep, these used to be in RI, but the very last seem to have been replaced by M-250R2s. Sad
@ Vince; yeah, I like the integral ballasted lights better than remote ballast.
@ Darren; Thanks Smile
