[Gone] Powerlite B2215
Here's a old Powerlite light that looks like a bigger version of the B2217. There is only a few of these still lighting a street here in Ontario but some older parking lots still have MV ones in use.

This one is on Hwy. 85 in Waterloo which still for the most part resembles how a urban freeway in Ontario looked back in the 70s.

There used to be be a lot of these along with its bigger brother, the B2213 on Hwy. 401 but they were all wiped out by HPS cobras and highmast lighting in the early 90s.

[b]Here's a pic of some of these on the 401 in 1967:[/b]

Thanks to Dave for telling me the model # of this.

Excelent classical cobra....it reminds me of the M400 somewhat.

@prawnman88 yep I should do that the next time I pass through that exit, but the lights changed a lot in over 40 years Very Happy

@Form109 yeah they do look like a M-400, I used to think that they were M-400s before I knew what they were. I think one might be a Powerlite instead of Sylvania one though.

I like this design of cobra head too, sadly one of few that I know of was totaled two months ago Crying or Very sad (just posted a picture)

MYSTERY SOLVED! According to my ex-Canadian friend, this is a Powerlite B2215!
joe_347V   [Mar 22, 2011 at 02:53 AM]
Thanks Dave, I actually guessed that this might be a B2215 based on the other Powerlites but THANKS for the model #!
lite_lover   [Mar 22, 2011 at 07:07 AM]
Isn't this larger Sylvania Powerlite the B2227? The smaller model is the B2217.
Silverliner14B   [Mar 22, 2011 at 07:13 AM]
I was told by my friend the smaller model was the b2217, medium model was the b2215, and the large 700-1000w model was the b2213. The b2227 would be the small 70s-80s model that later became the R37, no?

BTW Darren, in case you haven't seen, that boxy 2 door cobrahead has been identified as the Skyline Skylight.
lite_lover   [Mar 22, 2011 at 07:26 AM]
Ah yes the B2227 is the same as the R37 Doh I knew that lol as I have one labeled as a B2227.Don't know what I was thinking,a model before the B2255 Rolling Eyes . Interesting the model numbers decrease as the size increases. Yes I noticed that other fixture called the Skyline Skylight,I havent heard of that model name before.
LilCinnamon   [Mar 22, 2011 at 07:41 AM]
These model numbers confuse me! D:
GullWhiz   [Mar 22, 2011 at 02:04 PM]
Is this the same concept when a newer generation OV-15 became L-15? for the B2227 becoming a R37?
gailgrove   [Mar 22, 2011 at 07:39 PM]
Alright I think I've figured it out totally,
This is the B2217
This is the B2215
And this is the B2213
(for reference)
This is the B2227 (later known as the R37)
And this is the B2255
joe_347V   [Mar 23, 2011 at 03:01 AM]
Interesting I've didn't know that Powerlite also made a B2213, anyways according to (...) here [/url] Powerlite also made a twindoored cobrahead called the B2228 "Twindoor" which was part of the same series as the B2255. Can't find any more info aside from the name and model.

EDIT: Can't get it to link the CSA page for some odd reason, so Click here and click on the CSA link (2nd link) on the post to see the listings.

That is a very short truss arm. Usually extra support is not needed for short arms.
gailgrove   [Apr 24, 2011 at 01:11 AM]
Its a 6ft arm, the MTO (Ministry of Transport Ontario) used these for years and they tend to over do things.
joe_347V   [Apr 24, 2011 at 01:17 AM]
Yep a 6 ft luminaire truss used from the mid-late 60s to the early-mid 90s for freeway lighting. I've always had a liking to these arms for some reason. The pictured one looks like a 60s-70s style though, and yeah MTO tends to over do things.

Now they use 8' tapered e arms or highmast lights.
gailgrove   [Apr 24, 2011 at 01:27 AM]
Yeah kind of like this which I'm pretty sure the MTO was responsible for.
joe_347V   [Apr 24, 2011 at 01:32 AM]
Same with here where they used highmast on a arterial road. They also put pole bases on a bridge that was lit with highmast once.
gailgrove   [Apr 24, 2011 at 01:35 AM]
I think I went through there once too, and had the same shocked reaction Shocked
joe_347V   [Apr 24, 2011 at 01:47 AM]
Sometimes I wonder who designs this stuff Smile
