American Electric Dura Star 2000
OK guys don't hurt your eyes LOL!! Thought this would be a great way to celebrate the additional space on GoL, by adding a pic of my Dura Ugly LOL
Even though it's ugly,it is still interesting with the fiberglass housing and aluminum slip-fitter adapter.

Same here. Just as long my utility company doesn't decide to use them.
gailgrove   [May 20, 2010 at 09:00 PM]
I still think there ugly, however like Darren it would be cool to have one in my collection Smile

I prefer a Durastar 2000 more than those weird iron-shaped LED streetlights Wink
GullWhiz   [May 21, 2010 at 03:22 AM]
Those durastar reflectors are REALLY strong, there was a picture posted in LG long time ago that they tried to run over a durastar reflector...it didn't crush it, instead it lifted the pickup truck!
joe_347V   [May 21, 2010 at 04:17 AM]
I don't mind the durastar that much now considering the designs of the new LED streetlights. Although I think the Durastar would look better if it didn't have that bulge on the bottom.

@Jace I remember that pic, the reflector was strong enough to not even bend under the weight of the truck. I don't have that pic but I do have the one of the smashed durastar on my hard drive.
lite_lover   [May 21, 2010 at 04:34 AM]
I agree Vince and Joseph, the Dura Star is looking better than the LED designs. The reflector is made of plastic with a reflective chromed surface,I guess the shape resembling a "turtle shell" has quite a bit of strength when weight is applied from the top.
GullWhiz   [May 21, 2010 at 04:36 AM]
wait...a plastic reflector...wouldn't they yellow or melt from...the lamp?!?!??!?!
Form109   [May 21, 2010 at 05:12 AM]
Whoa Whoa Whoa!....Plastic Reflector.....uhhhhh now the durastar is Starting to Turn my Stomach again! Rolling Eyes
Tmcdllr   [May 21, 2010 at 05:43 AM]
This is not as FUGLY as some of the LED fixtures I have seen. Just for the hell of it, let's see this thing lit.
gailgrove   [May 21, 2010 at 08:18 PM]
Yuck! a plastic reflector how cheap can you get Confused
mercuryvaporrocks   [May 21, 2010 at 08:28 PM]
Thank god I don't see them around where I live, my stomach would churn all the time. Laughing
Form109   [May 22, 2010 at 12:22 AM]
the Reflector must be made of some sort of High Temperature Thermoplastic....Still...Metal seems like the Way to go...or Porcelain like a Radial Wave or Crescent moon!
Medved   [May 22, 2010 at 12:26 AM]
Plastic reflectors actually perform better, as they are not prone to corrosion degradation, are easier to seal and allow more complex shape for advanced optical beam patterning. But why the ... the outer shell should have such crazy shape? The outer is clearly not one piece with the reflector, so there is no technical reason for such shape.
lite_lover   [May 22, 2010 at 12:27 AM]
I imagine the reflector is similar to the plastic back housing of a car and truck headlight assembly with a reflective chrome layer. At least the lens is real glass LOL.

@ Medved: I don't know why the crazy shape, and the ignitor sticking out the bottom...it's not that easy to pull out without prying the locking tabs on the inside.

@ Tmcdllr: Sure,I will take a pic of it lit soon.
GullWhiz   [May 22, 2010 at 03:49 PM]
The ignitor....I have one....but it actually falls off too easily LOL, one shake...it drops!
Form109   [May 22, 2010 at 10:33 PM]
if i had to use an AE Cobrahead id Go with a 125 or 325 over the Durastar.
gailgrove   [May 23, 2010 at 01:03 AM]
Well for the 2000 it would be the 115 or 315 for the 3000 it would be the 125 or 325.
Form109   [May 23, 2010 at 02:32 AM]
Yes i know that...but in chandler texas they Use AE 125's with 100 Watt Lamps!
gailgrove   [May 23, 2010 at 02:39 AM]
