Any lamp would look glary, if you look directly on it in the main beam angle.
But important is, how much the fixture causes the glare to somebody looking normally onto the road.
But as i see the further light posts, the cut-off work pretty well, so there should not be any glare...

True no glare and NO LIGHT! Rolling Eyes
TiCoune66   [Apr 10, 2010 at 03:16 PM]
Wait, where's the road? Laughing

Seems that the setting of the sun is actually brighter than the LED street light Razz

That was a dumb move by the city, those newer LEDs look even worse than the HPS ones LOL. More glare, less visibility.......FAIL.

Agreed, I don't like these LEDs very much. They become glary when your eyes enter the beam angle. Under the 100w HPS lights they replaced, you could kinda read a book. I doubt you could under this new junkola.

Yeah, to me the LEDs look too directional and too glary if you're in the beam. It looks too dim if you're outside the beam.

I bet those LED companies are gonna be rich LOL.

Dave do these Cast any Usable Light on the Roadway?
Silverliner14B   [Jun 17, 2010 at 11:58 PM]
They are a little brighter on the ground than a full moon.
Form109   [Jun 18, 2010 at 01:32 AM]
That Sounds Extremely Dim.....MV is better to me.

I added my last comment here more than two months ago ... and I still don't see the road. Laughing

i Can see the Pools of light on the Ground....i Wonder how long these will last....and how long they will maintain Lumens.

Let the LEDs prove themselves. They are still a very new technology and we still don't know how they fare in the long term.

LED's have been around since 1962,they are just recently starting to be developed in high wattage form for general lighting and not just indicator lamps.
Silverliner14B   [Mar 19, 2011 at 10:09 PM]
LEDs were discovered in the 1880s when one inventor ran electric current through pieces of silicon which gave off a blue glow.

"Invented Nick Holonyak Jr. (1962)"

There is a difference between "discovered" and "invented". Sir Humprey Davy discovered the incandescent bulb in 1807 and Edison invented the practical bulb in 1879. So what do you think of the LED movement?

Icetrons seem do to pretty well in the tunnel...I saw them today.....when going back home from Baltimore City...
streetlight98   [Apr 23, 2011 at 04:31 PM]
LED street lights should have a flat prismatic lens like fluorescent troffers do to diffuse the light more evenly and cut glare.
