Seriously.. Watch where your backing up
This shoebox which was actually a pretty funny sight was knocked down because of snow removal crews backing up and forward. The pole was intact except the bottom. I might end up reporting this but I hope they just reuse the shoebox

Is this a drop lens shoebox? Odds are if they need to replace the pole they're going to just install new everything. The only time i think they'd ever reuse is if it took less time to reuse since time is money. If it takes the same time or longer to transfer the existing light compared to replacing it with brand new, they'll probably go for the brand new.

Here on the main cut-through road in my area, all the side streets had 30" stop signs on square wood poles. But, sometimes the plows pack the snow against them and they always end up snapping. And they come back and install a 24" stop sign on a green U-channel pole (that's if they ever replace it).

It looks like it's the Powerlite variant of the drop lens shoebox (I've yet to figure out the model# Razz ). Those usually end up getting a bit rusty over the years so they'll probably slap a new one on when they end up replacing the pole. I'm not sure if Cooper still makes the UCD though as I don't recall seeing it on their site but I think it might be a unlisted item like the OV-15 and OV-25.

Anyway a lot of signs here are also on 4x4" wood posts and usually a few get knocked down by the plows every winter. They usually put a new wood post up as a replacement.

Ahh here the signs probably get stolen for scrap but even if the knocked down stop sign was still there it can't be reused because the 30" stop signs on the wood posts here are non-reflective so they can't be reinstalled.

Yeah, being in Brampton like Mr. Model 25, I haven't seen this Powerlite shoebox shown in this picture in ages, looks discontinued.

Speaking of knock downs in Brampton, I've counted 4 signalized double arm lamp poles knocked down this winter, all have been relamped with rarely seen sag lens OVF's (250 or 400W HPS).
streetlight98   [Feb 24, 2014 at 02:58 AM]
Were the old lights OVXs? If so, YAY! BTW, the OVF with a sag lens is the OVY. (Why they give a different name based on the lens you choose is beyond me Rolling Eyes Laughing )
m@   [Feb 24, 2014 at 04:38 AM]
Oh thanks, so rare I forgot it was an OVY. Funny thing, on the manufacturer website the OVY's indicate the lens is prismatic, but the one's I'm seeing are clear sag glass.

The knock downs replacements I've seen til now used to be OV-25, OVZ and OVX.

Hmm, I guess Cooper starting using a different sag lens and never bothered to update the spec sheets. Rolling Eyes The older ones had something similar to a shallow drop lens on it.
m@   [Feb 24, 2014 at 04:53 AM]
Matter of fact, every OVY sag lens I've seen has had no imprints/texture on it. I've seen tons with clear sag for temporary MTO lighting.

I recall seeing some OVYs with the textured sag lens around the DVP/York Mills interchange but I could be wrong.
streetlight98   [Feb 24, 2014 at 11:06 AM]
they usually have a little etched out spot at the very bottom...

Friday it was really windy 60 MPH gusts and there was a rusty pole that snapped just above the base a few inches! Lucky no one was parked there! The shoebox was 250W HPS cooper and totally obliterated! The mid pole flood wasn't dammaged the lamp was still intact too Shocked
streetlight98   [Feb 24, 2014 at 09:15 PM]
What's really scarey is how these lights still work! Here I've never seen a fallen light still working. usually something breaks lol. And if something shorts with the metal pole lights with individual PCs here, the fuse/breaker in the manhole next to the pole will blow, disconnecting that pole and keeping the other poles powered up.

There is now a orange pylon sticking out of the snow now.

@m@ in 2009-2010 the signal knockdown replacements in the east side were AE 125's.
m@   [Mar 01, 2014 at 12:19 AM]
Makes sense, knockdown replacements in the west end were also AE 125s! I am a westender.
Model25FanForever   [Mar 01, 2014 at 05:21 PM]
I never seen any AE 125 knockdown signal poles in the west end of Brampton. I know of 4 intersections on the east end that do.
m@   [Mar 01, 2014 at 08:26 PM]
Fluke. I know one in the west, Sandalwood and Braidwood have a AEL 125 pole. Funny thing, as driving by today, I notice it has developed a forward lean into the intersection, maybe just the frozen ground. I guess west means west of Hurontario though, you're right then.

Ahh yes...Winter Kill..! This happens a couple of times a year in the snow belt.
TiCoune66   [Mar 04, 2014 at 01:51 AM]
Funny thing is the electrical connections are also intact xD
joe_347V   [Mar 04, 2014 at 04:35 AM]
@M@, I was waiting for the streetcar at Broadview today, and I noticed that the platform there is lit with 250w MH OVYs that have textured/ribbed sag lenses instead of the clear one. Judging from the nameplate on the poles, they were installed in 2003.

*Update - This was replaced earlier this week with a new round concrete pole and new cooper shoebox. Lens is browned out though. I wish they reused the light since there was nothing wrong with it when it was removed.
