A little help here!
As a result of the Ice storm a few weeks ago this Shoebox was hit by a huge branch or a tree limb that fell from the storm causing the lens to fall out and the entire fixture to be upside down. The pieces of the lens are scattered under the snow and Ice. A new shoe box will likely replace this one.

wait until it rains... the ballast will be toast if the water makes contact with the coils lol. Even if the ballast and wiring doesn't short out, if it starts raining after the lamp as been running for a few hours, the lamp glass will shatter from thermal shock.

We had rain on the 13th IIRC. Yeah I thought it would have shortened and would be garbage. It still works but I guess maybe in time it will happen if its not taken care of

Hmm. working or not, i'm sure it'll be replaced though... interesting how they still make these too.

Hmm the ballast on these seems to be shielded from direct rain by the bracket but water cal still short out from the terminal block and the PC recept.

Didn't know that Cooper still made them though, I wonder if it's a unlisted item.

oh you don't know? I don't either but i figured they did is they're still installing them. they could be leftover stock though...

I live in this city as well. I have seen undamaged fixtures aiming at the sky too time to time, not sure how they end up that way, but it makes me laugh. Since 2012, I've seen a lot of these lights be replaced with refurbished parts, especially used and yellowed drop refractors.

In the area im around, the shoebox's that get replaced are completely new and nothings refurbished. I saw a second shoebox like this today Laughing

Looks like they might be still made then. There might be some leftovers too since I came across a NOS one from 1996 at Restore last summer.

Someone has thrown a block of ice at it or its twisted on its own. It now faces towards where I took this photo

Maybe a nosey mr-fixer got his wooden 10ft ladder and rotated it so it wouldn't short out and cut off his power (not that that would cause the power to go out but you know how clueless some people are lol). Speaking of clueless, I always laugh when people at a traffic light with a protected left turn signal think they won't get the arrow if they don't turn on their blinker lol.

I've never heard of that before Mike! I always laugh when people refer to a fluorescent light as a "neon" one and/or think there's a filament inside the tube! (well there is but not running the whole length).
streetlight98   [Jan 24, 2014 at 11:08 AM]
i've never heard of the filament thing but i know in school everyone likes to shut off the classroom lights to cool off the room when its really hot. I'm sitting there thinking "fluorescent lights don't give off enough heat to make a difference in room tempereature. Rolling Eyes Laughing "
Model25FanForever   [Jan 24, 2014 at 11:30 AM]
I laugh at the other students and even some teachers that think the fluorescent lights gave off heat. We'll be in the room and then the teacher would ask "would you like me to turn off the lights to cool down the room?" as soon as their off the teachers were like "Better?" Laughing Rolling Eyes
joe_347V   [Jan 24, 2014 at 03:19 PM]
I remember my elementary school teachers doing that too. On the older magnetically ballasted lights it does help since they generated quite a bit of heat.

In my school the buzzing all-T12s lights become an issue during standardized tests...
streetlight98   [Jan 28, 2014 at 01:35 AM]
ahh here it's those annoying radiators with fans that make them vibrate and buzz loudly.
joe_347V   [Jan 28, 2014 at 05:12 AM]
Ever wrote a exam in a building with steam heating radiators before? The banging from the expanding steam was so loud we ended up switching over to a room across the hall. Razz
streetlight98   [Jan 28, 2014 at 11:00 AM]
lol no the steam radiators here aren't used anymore.
Model25FanForever   [Jan 28, 2014 at 11:37 AM]
I had to write in a room with one of those noisy radiators the other day and I don't know why I chose to sit beside it for the exam Rolling Eyes Razz

What i do is slam a desk up against it or if i can't do that I turn around with my back to it and bend my leg and slam the bottom of my foot against it and that shuts it up for a while. Laughing
