New Fortran LED e-lite star™ SL2's on Dixie
These are the new LED's installed on Dixie road in Missisauga just north of Dundas. I think it could be a Autobahn or a STR-LWY-1S-HT. The LED's have these weird names. The new LED's m@ spotted in missisauga have also replaced R37's on Winding trail. Notice the 4th box its a dayburning LED. There were a bunch of those too

i love how one is already dayburning. Rolling Eyes
Model25FanForever   [Aug 24, 2013 at 06:35 PM]
I know. Rolling Eyes I mean these LEDs don't come cheap and yet they are already wasting it.

Mississauga is eventually going totally LED... All 60,000 of so cobra heads will end up scrapped. I've seen a few of these installed and it seemed every third light was dayburning. Rolling Eyes Total pieces of junk.
Model25FanForever   [Aug 24, 2013 at 06:48 PM]
Yea, if they are going to use LED try making better ones that won't randomly dayburn either
gailgrove   [Aug 24, 2013 at 06:51 PM]
I've noticed that none of them have PCs, instead they all have antennas on top. I somehow get the feeling the dayburning might be a programming glitch... Not that streetlights should need to be programmed in the first place, what if someone hacks them? Laughing
Model25FanForever   [Aug 24, 2013 at 06:55 PM]
Yea I noticed those antennas too. I was wondering if they were just like a PC. It could even be part of a control system. I could imagine somebody flickering them at night Laughing
gailgrove   [Aug 24, 2013 at 07:07 PM]
I'm thinking it's a system like this.
Model25FanForever   [Aug 24, 2013 at 07:42 PM]
that seems to be what its for. I guess it would be great for easy access, easier to find burn't out lights and for needing to override the system

bool LightON = TRUE;
DayburnHack(LightON, Photocell); Razz
joe_347V   [Aug 25, 2013 at 12:56 AM]
Yeah I noticed at least 1/3rd of these dayburning Rolling Eyes Looks like the control system has some glitches.
Model25FanForever   [Aug 25, 2013 at 01:23 AM]
Maybe letting them know about they're obliviousness to the LED's dayburning might help Cool
gailgrove   [Aug 25, 2013 at 01:33 AM]
I say let them burn, it can be a "torture test" Laughing
Model25FanForever   [Aug 25, 2013 at 01:39 AM]
See if they can face the same challenges a cobrahead can
streetlight98   [Aug 25, 2013 at 02:27 AM]
LOL i wonder what their face will be like when they get the energy bill and it's more than it was before the changeout since the HPS lights weren't dayburning (and if they were OVXs half were probably out anyways Rolling Eyes )
gailgrove   [Aug 25, 2013 at 02:31 AM]
Well streetlights are unmetered, but I agree it's so stupid to install new LEDs and have a third of them running all the time...
Model25FanForever   [Aug 25, 2013 at 02:31 AM]
They were majority OVX then R7's then 125's. I thought it would be a good turnout but leaving them like that is going to give them a bill for energy that could have been saved but its going to waste tax payers money Rolling Eyes
streetlight98   [Aug 25, 2013 at 02:38 AM]
oh yeah i forgot these aren't relay controlled... i suppose they could be metered if they wanted to since they have central control areas. I assume the antennas on the LED fixtures are more or less like Ripley's Aladdin PCs?
Model25FanForever   [Aug 25, 2013 at 02:44 AM]
I guess they are sorta like the Ripleys PC's except there's are PC's and these are antennas which also allow the city to override the lights if there is a problem
streetlight98   [Aug 25, 2013 at 03:09 AM]
no they're antennas just like these except they're not integral to the fixture.
joe_347V   [Aug 25, 2013 at 04:40 AM]
Yeah it looks like they're basically just a wirelessly controlled relay with some sort of current measuring device inside. (I guess it knows when the lamp is EOL by measuring the current).
