Cool! The box on my Philips Goldeye LPS light suggested using it for indoor security lighting. Most stores here just leave a few of their regular lights on for security lighting though.
The only place I've seen wallpacks indoors (aside from the lighting section) is on the subway. They have a Holophane wallpack like this but in bronze mounted on the wall of some platforms. They are incandescent and flash when the train is about to leave. I guess it's some kind of signal for the conductor to close the doors.
I used to find these in pharmacies and there were a few Radio Shack stores that also had LPS fixtures. In several cases, the LPS fixtures were in a 2x2 square recessed fixture - so it kind of looked like another fluorescent. Nice to see one of these still running!
LPS isn't actually considered an HID....but more of the same category the fluorescent is in.....fluorescent lights are basically low pressure MV while LPS are HPS in low pressure with more neon in it
@Jace, would you call it a LID > Low Intensity Discharge? And yes it was near closing. The T8 fluorescents were lighting it well, the camera just compensated and made it look darker.
Looks like those fixtures were once two lamp F96T12s... There's a Michael's arts and crafts store near me that had these fixtures with F96T12 magnetic ballasts and lamps until jut recently. Now the fixtures have four F32T8 lamps a piece. I wonder why F32T8 retrofits are so much more common than F96T8 retrofits. Seems like more work to maintain twice the amount of lamps... 8ft T8 fixtures are almost non-existant here. i've only seen them at a newer Benny's hardware, and they're factory T8 not retrofits.
I think some lighting companies encourage the F32s by saying that they are easier to handle than the F96T8s and that they come in more colours. Personally I think it's a waste of time to retrofit a 8ft fixture to twin 4ft and those retrofits always either never fits correctly or completely destroys the old fixtures.

Nice to see such LPS security lights still in use. The only other LPS security light fixture I know of is a 35 or 55 watt Philips unit at the Jo-Ann Fabrics (formerly a Cloth World) in Brea. It seems to have been out of use for a while as the bulb was missing.
Joe, my Uncle has an auto repair garage and he had a T8 conversion done two years ago by Anaheim Public Utilities. The 8 foot fixtures in the service bays were converted to F96T8 using GE UltraMax ballasts and SPX50 lamps. One of them just went out last Tuesday so I'm now on the search for replacement 8 foot T8 tubes. Four foot F32T8 lamps are a lot more common in locally
