OV-25 in the Backyard!
Well, after the pic this came down and the pole is headless once again. The pole couldn't handle the weight of the OV-25 (which is about 15-20 pounds i'd guess) and was bending forward. The light was swaying violently in just a breeze and the light kept sagging more and more so i took it down before it ending up damaged. I had that bad feeling in my stomach that something was about to go wrong. BTW, this had a 300W incandescent lamp and a 120V DTL PC from 1999 that would have been used if it could stay up.

The M-250A won't be going out back unfortunatly, since it's heavier than the OV-25. The only light that can go on the arm besides my Low Budget Area Light would be the NEMA Jace will be sending. Hopefully it's able to be on the set-up without fear of it getting damaged.

That looks realy cool to bad you had to remove it.
streetlight98   [Sep 04, 2012 at 11:03 PM]
thanks. I was really pleased with the look too. I stuck that stick in front of the pole in the ground because i thought the pole was shifting, though it was really just bending. Shocked

Thats one weak pole it shoud of been able to support the wieght. You should (when you dad is away) have a contractor sneak a class 5 30 foot pole into you the property. Then you could realy have fun I'll send you some pole steps to climb it.......Heheheheheheh. Laughing

Oh boy i can hear him already. Laughing It's actually my mom that's less approving of this though. My dad is the reason i could put the pole up. My mom wouldn't let me buy the stuff so i went to Lowe's with my dad instead. Laughing

Looks cool, too bad you had to take in off though. Maybe you should sneak a 50 ft concrete pole, MTO truss arm and 1kW Powerlite B2213 when no one is looking. Laughing Razz

And to think i was going to use my 45pound M-400 on this pole for parties. Shocked This thing would bend like a wet noodle. Laughing
joe_347V   [Sep 05, 2012 at 02:10 AM]
Aww I was going to sneak by your house and a stick a 50+ lbs B2213 on your pole. Laughing

If I were you I'd get a 150 ft tall highmast lighting system with a cluster of 30 1500 watt lights and then see who the boss of the neiborhood is!
joe_347V   [Sep 05, 2012 at 02:15 AM]
Laughing He must be the boss of the bright sky association. Laughing
streetlight98   [Sep 05, 2012 at 02:20 AM]
I'll be able to perform open-heart surgery at night in my backyard with that sucker. Laughing NGrid will have to add a few more transformers on the pole in front of my house first though. Laughing Razz

Nice set-up Mike, too bad the light had to be removed,it may need a couple lag bolts, one on each side in the flange of the arm to reduce the swaying.
TiCoune66   [Sep 05, 2012 at 02:32 PM]
If you can find one, you could try a satellite dish arm:

They're the same size as those yardblaster arms in hardware stores, but with a much tougher mounting plate!
mercuryvaporrocks   [Sep 05, 2012 at 03:49 PM]
That's a nice setup there.
Antstar85   [Sep 05, 2012 at 08:34 PM]
Joe must live in NSTAR territory because these arms are everywhere in that system.
streetlight98   [Sep 05, 2012 at 09:26 PM]
Thanks guys! BTW, the arm's not really swaying, the pole itself is.

PEOPLE: remember twice the distance is 4 times the force. Shocked so if it is out 6ft and is 20 lb that is well over 120.
