I challenge you to find a setup tackier than that 125 in my gallery. Razz
gailgrove   [Jan 26, 2012 at 04:48 PM]
Did you mean to comment on this picture? Wink Anyways it would be hard to find any lazier wiring than that.

Yeah I did Laughing but since I'm here too bad they're replacing more Powerlites and with FCO lights too. Rolling Eyes
gailgrove   [Jan 26, 2012 at 05:43 PM]
Yeah it's annoying, I don't know what prompted the FCO lights though... Rolling Eyes

Same thing in my area, not sure why they started using FCO, they somehow look glarier at night to me and plus they have bad light distribution. Rolling Eyes

Looks like they wanted the light to light the sidewalk too, so they put the pole there.
streetlight98   [Jan 26, 2012 at 10:53 PM]
It could be that, although cobraheads do put some light on the house side. I think it might be further back so it's less likely to be hit by a motorist.
gailgrove   [Jan 26, 2012 at 10:57 PM]
I think that is the reason, there really isn't enough space to have the light three feet back from the road.
streetlight98   [Jan 26, 2012 at 11:04 PM]
Here the lights are mounted around the same distance as the twistpack from the road. Some wood poles are less than a foot from the street curb like the pole in front of my house.
joe_347V   [Jan 26, 2012 at 11:26 PM]
Hmm I wonder why they couldn't do a downtown Toronto style install in put the pole right next to the curb.

what's the difference between the refractor throwing light into the sky and light bouncing off the ground to the sky?
gailgrove   [Jan 27, 2012 at 03:32 PM]
To my knowledge the refractor actually puts little light into the sky, it is mostly light reflecting off the ground that causes "sky glow" though these morons want you to think otherwise. Rolling Eyes
joe_347V   [Jan 27, 2012 at 03:37 PM]
They also tell you that MV is somehow worse than MH or HPS at causing skyglow. Rolling Eyes
mercuryvaporrocks   [Jan 27, 2012 at 03:53 PM]
They're liars. Rolling Eyes
gailgrove   [Jan 27, 2012 at 03:58 PM]
Take a look at these few moronic documents, they get me so angry... Mad
joe_347V   [Jan 27, 2012 at 04:31 PM]
Rolling Eyes Are some of those pictures photoshopped or taken through a dirty windshield to exaggerate the effects for their own agenda?

Oh and can you say code violation? Laughing
gailgrove   [Jan 27, 2012 at 04:33 PM]
That cracked me up when I saw it, I would "repair" this by upgrading to a 1.6 kW MH flood!
m@   [Jan 27, 2012 at 07:30 PM]
@gailgrv: clever way to post links to 4 documents. It's clear we are all on the same page now for sure. I have a point for glare that makes FCO desirable. I think the bigger the refractor is, the bigger a beacon effect it has. For example, I think I find it more visually distracting going down a road with low mounted AEL125's with their big drop refractors.

@Joe: I find that eves trough shade creative and it works!
gailgrove   [Jan 27, 2012 at 07:42 PM]
FCO isn't glary until you look directly at the reflector, then it becomes very glary. I think drop lens lights are much more consistent for one, I have an idea about a possible night shot showing some FCO vs drop refractor that I may be able to take soon.
m@   [Jan 27, 2012 at 07:45 PM]
exactly, stay clear of catching a view of FCO in the wrong driection. Yeah FCO's can appear they just turned on as you approach underneath. Nice, I will be anticipating a night shot comparison.
