Malibu tier landscape light with LED retrofit
I installed these in 2004 and retrofitted them with Philips AccentLED capsules in 2010. These are the older style lights, no longer made, but are the exact lights shown in the picture on the box for the AccentLED lamps, so I figured they'd be worth a try. They are a perfect fit, and give a better light distribution than the 7w low-voltage incandescents originally equipped. Uplighting the palm tree behind it are two 10w halogen spots and behind that, a 100w mercury wall pack with clear bulb.

Very nice pic! The cooler colour temp of the LED retrofit and with the mercury light looks pretty cool with the plants at night. I think you won't get the same effect with a incandescent.

Seems that LED works well in low light level spot and accent applications.

I like it. Iwanted to install low voltage lighting but my dad said no, so I went to benny's and bought liek 20 of those mini westinghouse solar lights. Some have had problems, but haven't replaced one yet. They don't seem to hold a charge for the whole night though.

Yes, I'm not fond of the residential-quality solar LED lights as only on the longest, sunniest days in the summer might they operate all night. On a dark winter day they might not light at all. Though, I do have a number solar tier lights in my back yard because I only have backyard parties in the summertime anyway Smile

I have an old solar light I "refurbished" and it worked quite well last year. Even in late fall it still operated all night with only 9h of daylight to charge the two Ni-Cd batteries. I removed it in late November because it probably would not perform well at all under -15°C LOL.
