Yeah, to me the LEDs look too directional and too glary if you're in the beam. It looks too dim if you're outside the beam.

i Can see the Pools of light on the Ground....i Wonder how long these will last....and how long they will maintain Lumens.

Let the LEDs prove themselves. They are still a very new technology and we still don't know how they fare in the long term.

LED's have been around since 1962,they are just recently starting to be developed in high wattage form for general lighting and not just indicator lamps.

LEDs were discovered in the 1880s when one inventor ran electric current through pieces of silicon which gave off a blue glow.

There is a difference between "discovered" and "invented". Sir Humprey Davy discovered the incandescent bulb in 1807 and Edison invented the practical bulb in 1879. So what do you think of the LED movement?

LED street lights should have a flat prismatic lens like fluorescent troffers do to diffuse the light more evenly and cut glare.

Update! This year the city of Watsonvile replaced most of the remaining HPS lights to LED for a total of 1800 units. They still have 400w HPS in the downtown area.

Tarentum Borough just replaced all of their 400 watt high pressure sodium street lights last week with 250 watt LED street lights which are very dim.

More like a 1000 lumen 92w incandescent in a gumball with dirty refractor, brightness wise. Laughing

They recently replaced a few 100w HPS OV-15s in my neighbourhood with LEDs and the street is noticeably dimmer now. I hope it's a test install since only around 10 or so fixtures were replaced.
