That LED Junk is a Disgrace...even more so because its on a Great Old Guy Wire Arm!
Tmcdllr   [Apr 10, 2010 at 07:43 AM]
That's not too far, I gonna have to go check it out. If they are anything like the ones Caltrans is putting up they should be very bright.
mercuryvaporrocks   [Apr 10, 2010 at 09:59 PM]
Those look like the ones in Pittsburgh that they installed in Shadyside and South Side, junk!
Silverliner14B   [Apr 11, 2010 at 04:29 AM]
Tmcdllr, check out Fremont St in Sunnyvale, CA. There are also LEDs there. You'll also be treated to two shaded mercury M-400s near Highway 85.
Form109   [Jun 17, 2010 at 08:48 AM]
Do you mean California State Route 85?
Silverliner14B   [Jun 17, 2010 at 06:27 PM]
Yup, but the people in the Bay Area commonly refer to I-880 as "highway 880", SR 85 as "highway 85", SR 17 as "highway 17", etc or sometimes just the numbers. Here in Southern California they go by the route numbers like this: "the 101", "the 405", etc. You will see each region has different dialogues.

Yuck, Im glad we dont have any.....yet Confused
TiCoune66   [Jun 18, 2010 at 01:19 AM]
Wait, we are getting the
SAME EXACT fixtures in Riviere-du-Loup! I'm gonna see these everywhere in near future. They already installed a few in public places. Confused Are these GE?
lite_lover   [Jun 18, 2010 at 01:32 AM]
I took a look at a few of these,as there is a test patch of some LED and induction fixtures at a rest stop here in Abbotsford
GullWhiz   [Jun 18, 2010 at 02:32 AM]
Vince, No they are not GEs....the new GE LEDs are actually more cobrahead looking than the above! GE actually tried to make it look more cobrahead...but it has heat vents all over it.....the only LED fixture that I know that has the true cobrahead design is the Cooper OVH LED....
Silverliner14B   [Jun 18, 2010 at 03:12 AM]
The fixtures above are made by a company called Leotek.

How come double Guy Wire Arms aren't used on Metal Poles anymore?
Silverliner14B   [Jun 18, 2010 at 03:39 AM]
Double guys are a more complex design, having to use two guy wires in addition to the arm. In California the double guy was replaced by a long curved tapered arm that does not require guy wires. However here in Southern California double guy arms are still made for traffic signal mastarms on concrete poles, but new installations are rare.
joe_347V   [Jun 18, 2010 at 03:52 AM]
I also haven't seen any LEDs lighting a street here but Toronto installed a few test fixtures a while back.

Some older poles here still have double guy arms but the newer poles here all use tapered e arms. I believe they stopped installing them on metal and concrete poles first while they continued on wood poles for a while after.
Tmcdllr   [Jun 18, 2010 at 06:45 AM]
These look similar to the ones on 101 but I don't think they are the same. The fixtures on 101 are narrower.
Form109   [Jun 18, 2010 at 06:52 AM]
BTW Dave....Waco,Texas has some of these Excact Fixtures in Spots...Among all the MV.
Tmcdllr   [Jun 18, 2010 at 07:39 AM]
Still trying to figure out the make of the fixtures Caltrans is using but I am having no luck. They are for sure not these (as mentioned they are narrower) and slightly rounded at the corners. Does somebody know?
Silverliner14B   [Jun 18, 2010 at 03:16 PM]
Like this one? That is a Beta LEDway fixture. Beta fixtures are known for their shiny top and sides.
Tmcdllr   [Jun 18, 2010 at 09:46 PM]
Yes.
