Stylish, isn't it? The metal bucket refractor adds to the overall stylishness of the modern wooden pole, the classy wiring job and the use of the metal halide "retrofit" bulb for the mercury vapor fixture.

Nahh that there is the IDA approved model yardlight, note the full cutoff reflector and the MH lamp to make them ignore the fact that a MV ballast is inside. Laughing Razz

Indeed, it is a true bucket light fixture Very Happy

A+ for creativity but fail because it doesn't work Rolling Eyes

Actually, this is the IDA approved model! Laughing Actually I sorta like this, even though it's pretty cheesy looking. And the MH lamp, for as long as it will work, makes it brighter with better color rendering!
Nice thing about MH lamps is, when they stop making MV lamps we can still retrofit our fixtures as long as they still make probe-start MH.

Some MV ballasts won't start a MH lamp though.

I find it funny GEsoftwhite100watts said basically the same thing I did. Laughing

You forgot the fact it will be brighter with the MH lamp too so they can't complain about it being ineffcient as much Laughing

Metal halide lamps usually only run on 480 volt mercury vapor ballasts.

Really? My 175w MH lamp fires up fine on a 120v HX-NPF ballast in my yard light...
streetlight98   [Feb 26, 2013 at 01:52 AM]
i got a MH lamp to light on my yardblaster too. HX and reactor ballasts are the easiest for the MH to start on it seems for whatever reason that may be.
A_lights   [Feb 26, 2013 at 04:08 AM]
Yeah they work but not for long...a little use and they just won't start up
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Feb 26, 2013 at 03:13 PM]
I've heard that happens after about a year of nightly use...

Yeah my used sylvania metalarc has trouble starting on my GE M-400. I have to keep flicking the powerstrip on and off a bunch of times to get it to start but once it does it's BRIGHT!!!

My Advance 175w CWA MV ballast refused to start my new Sylvania 175w Metalarc. I'll have to try it on my HX yardlight ballast though.
