New GE PSMH street light - M250R2 150w
Compton, CA is changing all of its streetlights to Pulse Start Metal Halide. They even requested Southern California Edison to change their lights to PSMH. Here's a GE 150w PSMH street light on a residential street. I risked life, limb and anxiety attacks to take this pic, as Compton is a real ghetto!!! But I am fine, it was actually very quiet.

I think this one has a Philips ED23.5 ceramic metal halide lamp as it contains a mogul base lamp. It is rated at 24,000 hours, same as HPS. See here.

Compton is Ghetto eh?...i always heard it was a rough area, lots of violence....cool pic anyway...i don't think i would have stopped tho.

Oh I was careful I chose this area as it was quiet, areas with crowds are dangerous because that's where gangfights occur. Compton is indeed rough, but Detroit, parts of South Central LA, St Louis, etc are much worse.

Yeah I've always heard that Compton's a rough area, but I see that you took some precautions when taking this pic.

I know about Detroit, my English teacher used to live and work there, and he got involved with fights himself. I wonder why certain parts in cities can be so violent and rough.

New Kensington and Arnold PA are bad areas too. They're the worst cities in Westmoreland County alot of violence and drugs over there.

Parts of Baltimore City is pretty bad....that's why in some areas you'll see 1000 watt HPS in use....They are used in GE M-1000 and AE 327s!

New Kensington has alot of 1000 watt mercury vapor streetlights too.

I wonder if Compton went to metal halide to try to improve their image. By the way, I checked the SCE street light tariff rates, they do offer metal halide as an option, but oddly they don't list a 150w, not even for city owned ones either (100w and 175w are listed for both systems, up to 400w). SCE owned systems are made of incandescent, mercury vapor, high pressure sodium, low pressure sodium, metal halide, and LEDs. City owned systems in SCE land list everything above plus induction.

Don't like the PMH tags. They should all be one color. The variety of PMH tags is too wide. You're lucky. Here they only offer HPS.

New Kensington had hundreds of their mercury vapor globe top fixtures replaced with new LED's postlights to try to improve their image but there's still many empty storefronts down there til this day. Laughing

A few years ago, San Diego installed some MH lights in ghetto areas to help reduce crime. I think they replaced LPS lights.

I would like to see metal halide lamps replacing HPS, rather than LED. In my opinion ceramic metal halide lamps have a greater potential of overall performance than other light sources. Plus we would get back to white light! Cool

However I like HPS too. They'll always bring me some nostalgia. It's a little weird to me to think that in a more or less close future, it's gonna be "back when HPS was used in streetlighting" LOL.

They use MH post tops in Providence, but they're like 100w and not bright enough. Confused

+1 on the CMH lamps, I also want to see them used to replace HPS for streetlighting.

Toronto used low watt MH in their gumballs and have a few MH cobras but the suburbs are 99% HPS.
