finally got this philips l-prize
they are now on clearance out here so it was an opportunity to grab one. would never spend $50 nor even $20 for this, lol. it registered at 9.2w on the kill a watt. the cri is 90 but the tint still looks noticeably different from an incandescent. still a pinkish fluorescent hue. it does render skin tones better than a twister at least. it indeeds say assembled in usa but most parts are actually chinese.

yeah unfortunatly with "assembled in usa" markings, it usually means all the pieces including the circutry were done in china and the main peices were just snapped together here in the states to get the "USA" designation. Sad for the real quality stuff the box needs to say "MADE IN THE USA". Kind of a marketing scam IMO.

is this one supposed to be a more affordable version of the silver/black version? the latter just appears more robust.
Silverliner14B   [Mar 16, 2013 at 03:43 AM]
quite the opposite lol. this is the more expensive version. it is rated at 10w rather than 12.5w and has a cri of 90. also brighter at 940 lumens compared to 800 lumens for the 12.5w version.

hmm. it looks like it's less robust compared to the other one. in you description you said it's pinkish?

Cool that you have snag this one. Hopefully you would use it somewhere in your house and see how long it would last Very Happy

Hmm interesting, it would be more environmentally friendly if they used less plastic packaging though...

I want one but here they're still about 40 or $50 if i remember correctly

I believe the blister pack is also un-environmentally friendly...but its to prevent people from stealing them! I saw a GE led missing from the package at a meijjer store here and someone stuck a CFL inside
streetlight98   [Mar 16, 2013 at 07:59 PM]
i don't even know how expensive the LEDs are here. I don't pay any attention to the LEDs when i go to a store my eyes are on the non-CFL fluorescents and incandescents lol. and HID if a given store has them.
Silverliner14B   [Mar 16, 2013 at 10:12 PM]
@mike good for you not to pay attention to led. Very Happy
streetlight98   [Mar 16, 2013 at 10:17 PM]
LOL all i know is that they're too expensive for me to afford. Laughing
GullWhiz   [Mar 17, 2013 at 12:23 AM]
Actually this ones pretty robust as the other one....it's not plastic...it's metal painted white! I thought It was plastic until I got one.....I opened it up it has a bit better design in my opinion....instead of wires soldered they are plugged in....in the same type of pins and plug you would see in computer circuit board with the pins on them and using wire ribbons....

The cheaper version says made in china while this one says Assembled in USA
streetlight98   [Mar 17, 2013 at 02:12 AM]
oh wow, i guess these are better! i wish they came in black!

Hmm, I want one too but they're not sold in Canada and ordering one online is too much. I have the cheaper 12.5W silver one and a 10.5w non dimmable one though.
