Very old poles on Highway 2 in Warwick RI
This is southbound 2 approaching I-295. These braced upsweeps were installed in the 50s. In the 80s I remember many of them with grey M-400s from the late 60s and I think I may recall 1-2 with old clamshells, Form 109s I think. On this row the underground conduit apparently had gone bad, so now the poles are wired from the nearby secondary line on the utility poles.

WOW I went by this exact spot going to lunch today! I went to the HD up the road for starters! Smile

Yep these poles originally held Form 109s according to a pic Joe M. sent me. These lights look liek they're 120V though since i only see two wires on the overhead feed. These lights all along Rte 2 (the part with these poles) was relamped so many of the fixtures are brand new. The first pole in the pic on the right held a doorless OVZ before. On the left are a bunch of new shiney HAPCO truss arms since the plow ran them over a couple years ago. Shocked National Grid waits until virtually every light is out before relamping and numerous poles are down before replacing them. Up ahead you can see the new RIDOT davits with 250W M-400s on the ramps and 400W M-400s on the highway. M-250R2s on truss poles used to light Rte 295 up ahead and tapered ellipticals like the one on the left used to light the ramps. As you can see they repalced the bare minimum lol.

I've seen SCE do the same thing, mid span taps for street lights.

I know! If possible, there's a flea market near me (i think it's jsut on the weekends though). they have all kinds of fluorescent lamps! All NOS!!!! It's all stuff from closed out companies and businesses. I saw some /WW F30 lamps in an old looking GE box. I left with just an exit sign though. It's an incandescent hubbell with green and red color options and option of single or two faced as well as the option to mount to a wall, mounting to a wall on the side, or mounting to the cieling. It came with a universal bracket and the lamps. It also has battery backup but i didn't conenct the slip-on battery wires since it's not permanetly installed. It will hopefully be installed in my laundry room but it won't be functional. My parents don't want me doing any electrical work to allow it tobe powered. I would ideally wire it with the ligth switch so it's just on when the room is occupied. Anyways, if me and Dave can meet up we'll definetly have to go there! No HID stuff from what i saw besides possibly a few HID recessed cans. I saw F-can ballasts but they were too high up for me to reach. They have two full walls of fluorescent tubes though from floor to ceiling!

Ooh that flea market looks like my kind of place, most flea markets here sell pretty boring stuff.

Wow what a small world Mike, I went in that Home Depot that day! Did you see the big stack of Sylvania bulbs? Some of them are made in France, look for the 100w ones with 1370 lumens these are French. The 1530 lumen 100s are USA made. By the way I'm only in New England until this Friday so the flea thing won't work out but I'll PM you tonite about my schedule etc.
