Wow! I guess this is the big brother to your 300-500W light? I can't even imagine the heat coming from a room fullf of these. Do you know if 450W SBMV lamps were ever retrofitted into these units over the years or if these were even wired up to remote ballasts for standard MV lamps?

I highly doubt that. The fixtures don't led themselves very well to any type of discharge light sources. These were mainly used in places with high ceilings or large foyers.

Retrofitting these to HID will take some work. At the very least a reflector will have to be made that simulates the silver bowl effect.

It would be cool if silverbowl SBMV lamps were made for these.

Actually, I believe Venture Lighting had a Silvered top 1000 watt MH lamp at one time.

Hmm interesting. It would be cool to see gymnasium or vertical base up "shoebox" lights with silvertop lamps. A lot less glare (and probably quite a few lost lumens too but still would be cool). I know of some post top and bollard designs with two reflectors so that the lamp is essentially "hidden" in the fixture for a nice glare-free light.

That is actually what they were designed for.
