Does Anybody notice that Little Metal Can on the Lowest of the Two Crossarms at the Top of the Pole?...its about the Size of any other Remote Mercury Ballasts ive seen.

that Sure looks like a Series Remote Ballast....not 100 Precent Sure.

Yeah it does look like a series isolation transformer since it has thick leads and it's mounted on the crossbar.

Hey thanks Dave!...i Wonder if This Thing Still Works...how many Volts did Series Systems typically Run off of?

I've seen the same set up in Pittsburgh where the transformers were mounted on the crossbars on Duquesne Light's poles.

i Believe that Series Wiring Fell out of Favor Years ago...how long ago i dont know....but it seemed Plenty Dangerous...and maybe Reliability was an Issue too....it's nice to Find Fully intact Systems...but even little Pieces like this that tell a story of the Past are nice to Find. Smile

Yeah I also like looking at older utility poles because they often have little pieces of the past still mounted on them. I've haven't found signs of a series system here though, but it's possible the gumballs here originally were wired for a series system.

Some of the older utility poles here have what looks like a old remote ballast can mounted near the arm, and some have old brackets from a old arm still mounted.
