Frost FBAK-10 preheat ballast with starter socket.
Here's this week's rescue! This little guy was in a 1990s GE cooking range and has been saved from meltdown! I also grabbed the starter socket while I had the opportunity (the scrap metal management has been reviewed at the recycling centre so people can grab stuff, but the time stuff goes to scrap is still out of my control xD). The starter was missing though, unlike most previous starter sockets I saved.

One interesting thing I noticed upon removing the ballast was its location. Instead of being screwed on the lower part of the stove's frame, it was located just under the tube in the head, keeping itself away from the intense heat!

I wonder if they still make stoves with fluorescent cooktop lights, I noticed the new ones don't have the cooktop light anymore.

I know one of my high school friends had a fairly recent stove with a tiny F4T5 lamp under the controls just above the cooktop surface. It was preheat and all, but I never found the starter xD

Maybe the starter is one of those wire in ones in your friend's stove. That or it's on the back side of the unit. Those are my two guesses.

I wonder if the starter is one of those heat shrink wrapped hardwire ones, I never knew they still made stove with fluorescent lights that recently though. Mine was from the early 90s and came with a GTE Sylvania F18T8/26" which I replaced with a Philips tube cause I wanted to save the older Sylvania one.

My microwave actually has the stove vents and light (it's a low wattage incandescent lamp with a "low" and "High" light setting) integrated into the bottom.

Ahh my microwave is a plain old countertop model, the vent hood above my stove does have two GU10 halogens on it though.

Mine may have halogens instead of incandescents too. All I know is that it's not fluorescent. I kinda wish it was though. Smile

Well, I guess if you find something like this you could convert it to PL. Razz

Nope. It has a 2-way switch. You press it once the light comes on full power. Press it again it lights at about half brightness. Press it again and it's off. The lamp is too dim do be any use to us anyways. BTW, I checked and it's a 30W T-shaped (the base is smaller than medium but bigger than a C7 or C9 lamp) incandescent. a longer lamp can't fit though a wider one could...
