Ugh! Check this out! Today I finished wiring an outlet for my emergency light. I chose the vacuum outlet to start the new part since it's the closest one. But upon removing the outlet to add the new Loomex cable, EEK! See the black wire? This could've shorted at any time! And no, you are not seeing things, this outlet is indeed connected to a RED Heatex cable, designed for 240V heaters! The red is used as a neutral, I even checked it with my clamp meter to be sure LOL. Not only the wrong cable type is used, but the way it used to be was dangerous. Needless to say I cut those wires and stripped a new length of wires. However it'd be too much trouble to change the whole cable LOL. The last thing that violates the code is the usage of a 15A outlet on this 20A circuit. There were other things that I did not like at all, like the way the wires were connected to the outlet. A good 1/4" of copper was exposed and the hooks were badly made, unlike mine! ^__^ This is likely the most code-violating circuit in the whole house! The circuit part I added however does not violate the code in any way XD. Keywords: Miscellaneous

Ugh who decided to use a red cable Rolling Eyes and that frayed black wire Shocked. Did you relabel the red wire when you were done?

That reminds me that I need to watch two of the finest Canadian's Holmes on Homes and Holmes Inspection on HGTV again. You should see some of the electrical violation before he fixed it up Very Happy

I remember when I was a kid there used to be two outlets in the basement, this one and another one for the fireplace's fan. Both of them were wired with red NMD cable XD. The other outlet has been removed several years ago.

As for the remaining outlet, since it's not a critical circuit, nor an important one (this is a vacuum outlet which is on its own circuit), I don't think it's necessary to relabel the red wire. If it was a job for someone else I'd do it, but it's my own stuff, so I know this particular circuit uses a red wire as the neutral LOL.
