The Crow and the Baboon.
Okay, I tried climbing this pole using lineman's gear. I sucked. With a few times practice I would be up to the GE light in no time. The foot harness has a wicked deadly point to stab the pole and climb it. Didn't stab it deeply as I should have so I slid down it leaving a HUGE deep scar on the pole. Not something to buff out at all!

You can hear the stupid gull laugh as he took this pic.

I climbed higher this time....I climbed up HALF way of the pole.....going back down, I almost fell straight down but good reflex I had to stop myself from falling! Trust me a lot of practice is needed.....I was told most linemen around the USA (or the world) isn't really too keen about climbing and some will refuse to do so!

Prove it! Razz

I want to try pole climbing, but the gear is hugely expensive (about $2000) Did you use a fall restraining belt? There's no way I'd even try to climb without one. I can see why people are reluctant to climb poles, a bucket truck is much easier to work in.
GullWhiz   [May 27, 2011 at 09:30 PM]
Yes bucket truck is easier....but there are some lights on wooden poles that are on grass and far from the road or in backyard or something...then you can't drive bucket truck on grass then you gotta climb!!!

Well luckily there's none around here that they can't drive to (well okay they will drive through parks and fields Laughing ) Here we also have a large amount of concrete poles which can't be climbed.

some of the posttops we have in my area, if they are far from the road, then they have a special hidged poles installed if far from road so if lamp needs changing, then the hidge area gets unlocked and unbolted and bright down via the hidge and get relamped or reballasted or even new fixture right on ground.....then it gets back up, bolted and locked.

I've never seen a hinged pole before, I have heard of them though.
