I was asked by friends father to replace the fluorescent lights in his work room, one of them that was said to be "new" had burn't out just like this one. Except it was a Phillips. I didn't know LG made fluorescent tube lighting.

Found out the story behind this. There was a bad smell and smoke was in the room, and the fire dept was called. the light had quit by then and a fireman removed this bulb from the fixture. the socket needed to be replaced and was not a fire hazard.

i see this all the time! scary because some are sidemount fixtures with the lamp nearly touching the drywall in walgreens

I've seen severely burnt sockets a lot more now that IS T8 is so common. At least the drywall probably won't be as flammable as wood. Shocked
streetlight98   [Aug 12, 2013 at 11:07 PM]
yeah drywall is supposed to be flame retardant but that paper layer on the outside probably burns.
joe_347V   [Aug 12, 2013 at 11:21 PM]
Yeah they also make what's called fire rated drywall which I guess has some kind of fire retardant on the paper.

i put some small piece of drywall on the campfire i had outside once and it took a while to burn but it eventually did
streetlight98   [Aug 13, 2013 at 01:34 AM]
yeah it'll burn eventually but it burns slowly. it's like throwing a pice of chalk into the fire.

Yeah same with figerglass insulation...the facing will burn but the rest will just slowly melt down into almost-glass!
traffic light1   [Feb 08, 2014 at 01:06 AM]
I had one socket melt. Laughing
streetlight98   [Feb 08, 2014 at 01:53 AM]
Yeah i had one of those cheap sockets with the internal rotating piece melt/arc a little because the lamp wasn't installed perfectly straight. Luckily i shut it off before any plastic started dripping. Shocked
