Typical NYS Signal Setup
Here's a typical NYS signal setup. Unlike Ontario, NY seems to use the spanwires a lot even for permanently installed signals. Note the diagonal span which is almost never used in Ontario even for spanwire installs.

I'm not sure why but there are two different types of left turn heads in use here. Two sides use a inline 4 signal with a bimodal yellow/green arrow at the bottom identical to what Ontario uses and the other two sides use a doghouse head.

Signals appear to be TCT/Peek with Dialight LED modules.

odd how they used both the four section linear signals and the doghouses at the same installation. Confused personally, i prefer the four section linear signals but it's probably just because i'm used to it.

I guess I can say the same too, I also prefer cutaway visors over tunnel but it might be because Ontario uses mostly cutaway. Razz

i like cutaway better but RIDOT uses all tunnels. Sad

Ahh, over here signals (aside from those on MTO roads) are the responsibility of the municipalities so there's a fair amount of variety as to what gets installed.

Most places use the standard poly 12-8-8 with cutaway visors and backboard with tunnel only used in skewed intersections but I know some places with mostly 12" heads and some with all tunnel visors. I think Windsor used to use 12" heads with no backboards. Oakville uses aluminium Econolight signals for some reason.
