Brampton Construction 2012 #1 - New Intersection
[img] http://www.galleryoflights.org/mb/gallery/albums/userpics/normal_IMG093.jpg [/img]
Evidence in 2012 of the city of brampton now using FCO for any cobraheads job. This new signal set installation hints that we're using the cooper OVH for 15 and 25HPS and the OVF for 40HPS. I HATE that they mounted an OVH 25HPS on a pole typically used for 40HPS, as also visible in this intersection. They look so alike, you can barely tell. You can see the comparison here by noting the photocell is mounted closer to the latch on OVH's(click to enlarge)

We've been alternating between the FCO AEL 125 and the OVF for 250w spot replacements and the FCO AEL 115 for lower wattages during the past year but I saw a GE M-400A3 installed as a replacement around two weeks ago.

i guess OVF and OVH are better than OVX lol.

I wonder if the City of Brampton has specified Coopers? I haven't see any FCO AELs installed in the FCO onslaught.... Rolling Eyes And this reminds me of this picture!

@Niall, This remided me of the picture you cite as well

@Joe: this city hasnt not seen a FCO for any spot replacements yet Confused I also find it hilarious that your city's 250w coopers are OVF but in my city they will likely be rolling out 250w cobras as smaller OVH's. They seem to love any small reflecter cobra for this wattage regardless of make here.

I think the only fixtures originally designed to only be FCO's are these coopers, so makes sense to use them for FCO?
gailgrove   [Mar 03, 2012 at 09:00 PM]
Not really, the 125 and 115 where designed to be FCO, many other fixtures are as well. I think AELs are cheaper too so I don't see why they are doing this.
streetlight98   [Mar 03, 2012 at 09:29 PM]
IMO, the 115 doesn't look that great in FCO, however Niall's right. The 115 and 125 are made for FCO as well with usually a painted reflector and sometimes a streetside socket.

I wonder if the FCO Powerlites were designed differently. And yeah that setup really does look like the picture Niall linked to. In fact the B2255 is still running and I'm not sure what happened to the 125 it's either disconnected or have already failed. Confused
Truckersboy2010   [Mar 04, 2012 at 01:55 AM]
hey why does both the cooper ovh & ovf lights have different watt bulbs?
m@   [Mar 04, 2012 at 03:36 AM]
haha i was kind of waiting for someone to ask about the wattages on poles of the same height! I've seen this a few times, think they crammed a few too many high poles together in a row so they reduced the intensity of the scene by throwing a lower wattage in between. And of course someone uses a smaller fixture (OVH) if it's gonna be less than 400W...

This bothers me as historically the same fixture would be used for both of these wattages, between 2001 and 2011 both these would be an OVX, between like 1992 and 2001 both these would be a powerlite R47 (what a versatile fixture). btw Niall probably knows the dates more accurately than what I said lols.
gailgrove   [Mar 04, 2012 at 05:12 PM]
Yep the R47 was used between 1992 and 2002 or so for pretty much all wattages, a few R7s also slipped in there. Then the OVX, OVZ and 115 have been used between then and now with the 125 used occasionally, it seems the OVZ was used for 70/150/250, the OVX used for 250/400 however now only for 400, the 115 has been used for 70/150/250 and the 125 250/400 though more often for 400. Now it seems the OVH if used for 70/150/250 and the OVF used for 250/400.
m@   [Mar 04, 2012 at 07:35 PM]
That was an epic summary of brampton's fixture preferencing Niall, nicely stated. But I havn't seen a 250W OVF here at all yet, where have you seen it? Also, 250W OVZ's don't seem to be used at all anymore, I've only seen it used rarely, almost like they sneak them in lol.
gailgrove   [Mar 04, 2012 at 07:49 PM]
I think I've seen them in a new development near Queen and Chinguacousy, I'm pretty sure they were OVFs thought I can't be sure they are 250 watts but they where on 40 foot poles and the road looked too small to have 400 watts.
m@   [May 04, 2012 at 01:48 AM]
My prediction about Brampton only going with FCO's for projects in 2012 was wrong. Another street widening project is continuing the trend of randomly alternating between drop lens AEL 125's and Coop OVX's..
gailgrove   [May 04, 2012 at 01:50 AM]
Oh yay. Rolling Eyes Oh, and welcome back. Razz
m@   [May 04, 2012 at 01:54 AM]
yeah, been sucked into career life. wrong career move, so i quit. so i'll probably have the time for my again interests more in a few weeks. just gonna check the city's list of new projects for the year to get fresh again LOL.

27/10/12:
@Niall, I guess the city listened to you, I'm seeing new white powder-coat AEL 125 FCOs at new intersection construction at shoppers world, and kennedy at steeles.

UPDATE 3013 MAR: News: They are mixing white AEL 125 FCO's with unpainted drop lens ones for intersection reconstruction along Steeles ave in Brampton. Funny, because I've seen this randomness on a project with the cooper varients, but they smartened up and switched the drop leneses there for FCO consistency.
