Pile-of-lights.
Here is a pile of lights that were taken down from a construction project on I-25.

I only got a couple from it, two to be exact, and that refractor that is laying on the ground on the Model 25 door.

The lights I got was that OVH on the ground and the M-400 A1 FCO that is laying on the RIGHT, I got the bottom one, not the top one.

This was NOT at a contractors yard, just was a pile sitting there.

In denver.. Most of the lights ARE on their own Photocells. The two M-400 A1 FCO's though had no PC socket, so those might of been on relays.

But on interstates they usually do have their own Photocells for each light.

The OVH has a broken hinge, sadly. (Noticed it at the pile) But I still took it. I cleaned it out but it still is very dirty. At least on the inside.

The M-400 A1 FCO is in good shape. better shape than that OVH. xD The M-400 A1 has a plexiglass FCO glass too. I guess that was a common thing on Medium fixtures?

Odd most freeways I know use group relays.

Nice pile of lights! I would of taken the sign light and wallpack if I where you, actually I would of tried to get them all. Laughing Here most city lights have their own PCs but on the freeways it is always group relay, I have never heard of plexiglass lens in any fixture before, acrylic maybe.

I would of got them all.. But I was afraid I would get in trouble. Plus the car and stuff. xD

There were also lots of traffic signal heads here, But I tried to keep my time here scarce. xD

I would of LOVED to take all of this. But I didn't want to seem.. greedy. xD

Joe maurath was surprized that the clamshells here had PC sockets attatched to them. He said there was a slipfitter that went on the mast arm that had just a PC receptacle and the clamshell went on the PC slipfitter. He said it was the only place He'd seen this. We've used PCs on out highways up until the late 80's. Now we use relays.
LilCinnamon   [Oct 24, 2011 at 02:46 AM]
I think Colorado does relays too.

I am gonna show the pics of my two lights I got from here, and also show a comparison between the M-400 A1 FCO and the M-400 A2 FCO. xD

I think we used some sort of group control early on, even shots from the 60s show lumes without PCs on them.
streetlight98   [Oct 24, 2011 at 02:49 AM]
They had color film in the 60's? When did color film come out?
LilCinnamon   [Oct 24, 2011 at 02:49 AM]
I just found out my M-400 A1 FCO is wired for 240 volts and is NOT multitap! Just single tap 240 volts.

Maybe I can put that M-400 R2 400w HPS ballast on here.

Buy a dryer cord and hook 'er up. Smile
joe_347V   [Oct 24, 2011 at 03:22 AM]
Yeah I would swap the ballast since you already have one, or put your 400w MH ballast so you could make it a merc. Very Happy
LilCinnamon   [Oct 24, 2011 at 08:12 AM]
I put the 400w HPS ballast in here, to make it more, original. xD

There were two AE 313 power pads close by this pile, but they were on tapered E arms and looked like they ay of used those, so I didn't take them.

I am sure glad I found this pile! I dunno if I will be going back here for more though..
Silverliner14B   [Oct 24, 2011 at 04:15 PM]
Nice find! Even though I don't like HPS much, this is still quite a sight!
LilCinnamon   [Oct 30, 2011 at 07:20 AM]
As you know I got two more lights from this pile. The Model 25 FCO I got is behind all the lights so you can't see it.

And also below that Model 25 in the picture you can see an M-400 A2 FCO, I should of got a better look at that light. xD

Some of these fixtures were filled with water, like that Model 25, the reflector AND housing had water in it. And the reflector was corroded a bit...

Since they are far from finishing this intersection I might be surprised to find MORE lights on this pile! I dunno yet, cause the three times I was here the pile hasn't changed. (Except for the fixtures I took are now gone. xD)

Oh and I am REALLY glad I found those drop lenses from the model 25 and M-400 R3! When I get the new M-400 R3 from Tony I am gonna put the model 25 glass on that one and the plastic refractor on the HPS one.

Colour film came out in the 1930's as a commercial item. It was just very expensive initially.
LilCinnamon   [Oct 30, 2011 at 07:37 PM]
What does that have to do with this picture? O.o
streetlight98   [Oct 30, 2011 at 08:02 PM]
Read the 12th comment. I asked when color film came out.
LilCinnamon   [Nov 10, 2011 at 02:48 AM]
I do want that floodlight that is behind this.. But I dunno if I will be able to get it.

I wonder if this pile will get new lights. Been back here a couple times and I haven't seen any new ones yet.
joe_347V   [Nov 10, 2011 at 03:05 AM]
Was the floodlight used to light the freeway signs?
LilCinnamon   [Aug 16, 2012 at 07:05 AM]
Yeah the whole yard this pile of lights was in is now gone, they took everything away. Now it's just an empty parking lot again!
