US Lighting Tech "Jersey Series" 150 watt induction street light
This is the Jersey Series induction streetlight fixture made by Irvine based US Lighting Tech that were chosen by the city of Brea to replace all of their High Pressure Sodium street lights. The particular one I am looking at has a 150 watt Sylvania Icetron lamp and replaced a 200 watt HPS GE M400A FCO by a main road. A 70 watt version is being used on residential streets.

I was driving down Valencia Ave when I noticed a crew changing out the fixtures. I stopped nearby and went to talk to them and they were nice enough to let me watch them perform the change-out and showed me one of the new fixtures in the back of their truck.

I'm not a huge fan of Induction street lighting, it's better than LED but I prefer CMH.

Induction won't last through the winter here.

that brings about an intreasting topic...we know how cold affects typical electroded fluorescent lamps but since these are basically electrodless fluorescent lamps i would expect cold to reduce its effiency as well?

icetrons can work down to -40F , it the high temps that kill the electronic circuits

Awesome that the crew let you do that.

I have been watching Icetrons (which we have some in MD, plus in NJ) They do a lot better than LEDs....thats for sure!!!!!

Inductions do very very very well in the winter! Also inductions doesn't get hot!
LShocked ShockedK! See I am holding it....it gets about as hot as a long lit F40T12 or something like that!

I rarely see a failed one! I would say about 1 out of 500 fails or so

I have just found 2 of these fixtures up in Holyoke, Ma in a test area!!!

I've seen a test install of induction fixtures in Mississauga before and I think they used Icetrons.

I've seen the "wannabe" icetron lamps inside fixtures on a school campus, they were circular And a few didn't even work!

I've seen those at a supermarket before, although they recently got replaced with fluorescent highbays.

I think I'd also saw them at a parking garage in Downtown Brampton.

I notice an unusual NEMA tag on this fixture Confused
GullWhiz   [Sep 08, 2011 at 01:46 PM]
Aaron....the Circler lamps are also included for those fixtures above....I saw them in New Jersey for the lower wattage versions....

I wouldn't call that a NEMA tag. Only HID sources have NEMA tags. The others are immitations.
