Two ITT Model 25's on A-frame Brackets
Located right in front of the Big E in West Springfield, MA. There are at least a dozen of these still up on this road and there either 400 watt or 250 watt HPS lamps, but these lights here are both 400 watt HPS.

Not so much here. The main reason behind that is because the 25s here are HPS like these, so they didn't get switched out. The 13s are practially non-existant here though. Sad

Nice, the AE 25s here are all HPS so they'll only get replaced if the fixture fails or by group replacement.
GullWhiz   [Sep 27, 2011 at 02:58 AM]
We got plenty of those here.....HPS and Mercs.....

Those arms.....single guy or doubles.......PEPCO in MD and some DC has a lot of those exact arms (that's if they are singke guy arms) I think those arms aew from roughly 60s to 70s arms since those from this area have fixtures of those eras.....
Antstar85   [Sep 27, 2011 at 10:04 AM]
These are single guy A-frames. I believe most brackets up here are single guy that I can remember but I will look out for any double guy brackets.
mercuryvaporrocks   [Sep 27, 2011 at 02:50 PM]
There's alot of these in Allegheny Power's area (mercury vapor, no HPS).
GullWhiz   [Sep 27, 2011 at 06:57 PM]
I am not sure who makes those arms....It MAY be Line Materials...I am not too sure, but I know the double guy style but with a regular hanging mount (no A frame) are LM for sure......

almost every arm on this stretch of road are these. I'm hoping to see one on the ground at work to see if i can find a stamp or something to find out who makes them.
GullWhiz   [Sep 27, 2011 at 10:49 PM]
that would be great! Thanks

The 2nd light in this picture has been replaced with a 250 watt HPS M-250R2.
Also the a-frame bracket has been changed to a Maclean 6' canteliever bracket.
gramirez2012   [Oct 12, 2012 at 03:47 PM]
That sucks. Is the M250R2 a drop lens or FCO?
Antstar85   [Oct 12, 2012 at 04:14 PM]
Drop, we only install FCO upon request. Looks weird now with a 12' A-frame and a 6' cantilever bracket.

@ Tony; yeah i know that feeling. There were two M-400 split doors on 10ft hapco truss arms here on a road. One suddenly quit working (most likely the ignitor died) and ithw was repalced by a 250W HPS M-250R2 on a 6ft upsweep arm. I guess they changed out the longer arm to get scrap money for it since longer arms= greater scrap value. Anyways, the M-400 that's still up has had the same lamp as long as i can remember while the M-250R2 (installed around 2007ish) has been relamped at least twice. Confused You can tell the difference in color too. The full mercury lamp in the M-400 is a bit pinker while the new GE ecolux lamps NGrid uses are very yellow and have an overdriven look to them IMO. They do actually appear brighter than the full mercury lamps but the color rendering is much worse.
GullWhiz   [Oct 13, 2012 at 02:37 AM]
Michael, actually if the HPS is overdriven, it would have a BETTER color rendering, but SHORTER LIFE!
streetlight98   [Oct 15, 2012 at 09:40 PM]
What does the color look like? The color and the fact that it's brighter gives the impression of it being overdriven. Plus those eco lamps have short lives so they mimic an overdriven lamp in that aspect too lol. I'll have to see the color rendering again sometime. Maybe when i take my brother trick-or-treating. That's also when i do "inventory" on any lights in my neighborhood that are out or cycling lol. I bring a notepad and pen (and a flashlight of course) and write down pole numbers. Laughing
GullWhiz   [Oct 16, 2012 at 03:26 PM]
When it's overdriven, its actually much whiter! It becomes much more bright white with a hint of orange instead of plain orange. And the surrounding area looks much better and better color rendering. But shorter life of lamp.....because it ruins the ends causing it to leak after a while.

An underdriven HPS will last longer, I got some reports from my lineman friend that there was a bunch of 70s 150 watt HPS lamps in GE M-250A1s set at 100 watt instead of 150 watt and still working in 2012! Of course they were removed...for his collection! But of course 50 watt is not as much obvious difference as lets say 250 watt difference.....

I've driven a LOA 50W HPS on 100W pulse start MH and it was nice and white witha soft tint life 3,500K
streetlight98   [Oct 16, 2012 at 11:42 PM]
so running a 150W lamp on a 100w fixture won't harm the ballast?
Antstar85   [Oct 17, 2012 at 12:41 AM]
I've pulled a few 250 watt hps lamps out of 400 watt fixtures which were reported burning white. Not sure who and why 250 watt lamps were stuck in 400 watt fixtures.

AEL 25's are one of my favorite Medium-wattage fixture,it has a lot more character than the 125 IMO.

at least the very expensive RLG carries its rugged good looks lol. Laughing
