1950s DHO Poles
During the 1950s the DHO (the predecessor to MTO) used fairly short square concrete poles and double guy arms. The original fixtures used on these poles were usually remote ballasted MV clamshells. As you can see the original fixtures are long gone now having been replaced by these AE 113s.

Note the capped off pole, I guess that's where the ballast used to be mounted. That's a bit of a odd setup as usually the ballasts on the concrete poles were mounted to the side of the pole instead of on top. Metal poles had top mounted ballasts though. Another thing I found interesting are the taped up PCs. I supposed they're relay switched and whoever put the light up ran out of shorting caps.

Nice! I like those arms! At first i thought the cap was a remote PC lol. Hmm I don't see why they had to tape up the PCs. Just leave them alone. Nothing wrong with the PCs and relay... Here there are some missout lights with PCs instead of shorting caps on the lights that got converted from PCs to relays on I-95. On most of the lights they replaced the PCs with tall white intermatic PCs but some still have their PCs. A couple have new PCs too. I guess for the ones that still have PCs, they get new PCs when they're relamped... New replacement fixtures tend to not have PC sockets at all, though a few have PC sockets with a shorting cap.

Yeah, apparently these arms were quite common in the 50s and 60s. Anyway, I'm also not sure why they had to tape up the PC too.
