A HUGE Holophane Unknown Model fixture
Those I believe are for 1000 watt HPS!!! You have NO idea how big they are! Those were made by Holophane and seems to be the bigger version of [url=http://www.galleryoflights.org/mb/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-7870] Holophane Vector.....[/url]

I did not know how big they were until someone showed me a picture that was clear on HOW HUGE they are!

Robot holophane fixtures?
GullWhiz   [Aug 16, 2011 at 03:47 PM]
Those robot looking Holophane fixtures ARE EVEN WORSE for me......they are creeper!
joe_347V   [Aug 16, 2011 at 03:48 PM]
Well they're just regular Holophane highmast fixtures mounted on a "shepherd's crook" but they have this weird feeling about them.

Here's a good write up of them.

And here's the actual ones I was talking about.
But wait! there's more too!

Oddly, the ones in my first pic alternate directions while the ones in my second pic face the same direction.
GullWhiz   [Aug 16, 2011 at 03:53 PM]
I saw some in New Jersey...a small group, I will need to find them...those Robotic Holophanes...but NJ actually uses more of those floods shown above picture!
joe_347V   [Aug 16, 2011 at 04:06 PM]
Hmm, where else are those odd Holophanes used aside from NYC, and Buffalo.

I know they haven't invaded Ontario yet. Shocked
GullWhiz   [Aug 16, 2011 at 04:09 PM]
Massachussts have em......never seen them inside NYC.....if you are talking about the buckets.....
joe_347V   [Aug 16, 2011 at 04:12 PM]
Well I guess I was more referring to the monster cuplights on I-95 when I was talking about NYC.
GullWhiz   [Aug 16, 2011 at 04:16 PM]
oh they are just OUTSIDE of the city limits......NYC uses their own streetlight system while the NY state uses those eriee buckets.....once you exit NYC those are what you'll see!
streetlight98   [Aug 16, 2011 at 06:24 PM]
Connecticut has them in FCO on i-95. There not creepy. They're just highmasts. I don't know why you guys are scared of metal and glass. Razz Wink
GullWhiz   [Aug 16, 2011 at 06:40 PM]
Look at how they are installed, how they are setup...they are creepy looking...the ones in New England Expressway are all installed in SAME direction......kinda creepy!!!

It's actually the pole designs that are creepy....those poles are also Holophane's idea too...the poles and design are called the The Shepherd's Crook Those designs and the fact they all are installed in the same direction is CREEPY!
streetlight98   [Aug 16, 2011 at 10:28 PM]
Well, when you mount cobraheads on the highway they're all in the same direction.
GullWhiz   [Aug 16, 2011 at 10:56 PM]
not like that......it's a bit different....cobraheads all going in some different directions, and ramps and stuff....one row on right side...one row on left side, median row, ramp lights...

But those creepy stuff...were all pointing at the NORTH direction....very monochromatic! They are also far spaced.......just too creepy...chills in my spines when I saw them passing me SLOWLY in a robotic way....too rhythmic too! It's kinda like having a cartoon background repeat over and over and over.....the cobraheads and arms on the other hand...has more varieties! Even those roadway floods like above has a bit more varieties and go in some different directions PLUS different angles too!
joe_347V   [Aug 17, 2011 at 01:48 AM]
Yeah they look so monotone and repetitive when going down a freeway with then installed. They have this unsettling look to them. Razz
GullWhiz   [Aug 17, 2011 at 02:37 AM]
Try being a kid who was a bit short and couldn't really look up high down to the road, instead you are looking mostly up....and all you see is light fixtures.....try that in that Shepherd's Crooked Holophane set up Laughing all you see is EXACT same setup...passing by.....slowly...kinda.....like 1 every 2 seconds or so....The height of the poles make them appear to pass slowly too...not as slow as the highmasts though....

The ones that alternate...looks a bit better..but still weird...

They have lots of these fixtures (featured in the picture) in Denver, some on 225, some on 70.. And there are a LOT on the 6th avenue freeway (US 6) In Denver. They do seem huge! I wonder what the wattage are on them, they are HPS.

I really need to get a pic of one from Denver... There are lots.

I dunno the exact number.. but there are more than 50 I think...

GullWhiz   [Aug 17, 2011 at 01:59 PM]
Of course! People with the right mind would think so too! Laughing
joe_347V   [Nov 07, 2011 at 12:50 AM]
There's one of these monsters on fleabay right now. Anyone want one for their yard? Laughing
gailgrove   [Nov 07, 2011 at 01:00 AM]
Wow! Shocked I would love one of these but I think I'd have trouble convincing my parents to drive to Ohio to get a light, plus it weights 95 pound! Shocked
streetlight98   [Nov 07, 2011 at 08:49 PM]
Told you they were made by Holphane too. Razz 95 pounds is crazy. Shocked
