Nice! Too bad one burnt out. Did you try the other or do you want to keep it original? What was the purpose fod these lamps? they look cool!

Thanks! No, I didn't try the other one yet, just in case it burns out too. Crying or Very sad It was a sales gimmick as they were supposed to be slower burning lamps and guaranteed to keep on going for 2 years.

Ahh i don't think they's both burn out though. I think it was just a dud. Ahh I get it; turtles are slow lol. I guess they should have stuck a cheetah on the lamp you tested. Laughing

Nice! Too bad one of them burned out during testing though. I suppose you could try lighting the other one in series or with a variac if you want to test it.

I have a homemade tester consisting of two sockets wired in series I use for testing or occasionally lighting vintage/antique bulbs.

ahh I never thought about testing lamps in series. If you have a dimmer switched light that would do the same thing too, set the dimmer low and then screw in the lamp. The lower voltage wouldn't kill the lamp.

Yeah they must have thrown in a cheetah version. Laughing @ Joe and GEsoftwhite100watts, yes I will have to make up a couple sockets in series for testing, yes Mike a dimmer would be good too for a "soft start".

The one that failed had vacuum loss, very likely there is a crack somewhere. In my experience with Westinghouse bulbs, the most common area for cracks to appear would be on the stem just below the stem press. But it is possible for other areas as well.
streetlight98   [Mar 09, 2014 at 01:44 AM]
ahh yeah if it had vacuum loss a dimmer wouldn't have helped it any...

ahh interesting, thanks Dave for the info, nope the dimmer wouldn't help it any in that situation.
