~100 LED Cobras Converted To Used HPS
These photos are from a stretch of Sandalwood Pkwy between Hurontario St and McLaughlin Rd. These were changed to Cree LED's a few weeks ago as part of the city conversion, but today I was scratching my head seeing them all now in an assortment of HPS cobraheads! This contractor does have a history of gladly redoing lots of their work. lol
Prior HPS Assortment: R37, R47, OV-15, Unidoor 400, AEL115, OVX
Restored HPS Assortment: R37, R47, OV-15, AEL115, OVX, AEL125, OVF, OVZ

Wow! I think thats a W for HPS Razz . Too bad the Unidors didn't go back up. Would have been cool to see Model 25's or B2255's go up as well. What was predominantly put back up?

Like a 3 way tie for the predominant fixtures put back up: OVF, OVX, 115. I think there is only one OV-15 and a handful of the rest. The unidoors were probably too bulky to make it, but that'd be amazing to see. The appeaance of OVFs is probably because they can flat pack easier lol. A stretch of lights of random fixtures are all drooping too Rolling Eyes

Around 2005 is the only time I saw a Model 25 put up, a temporary upsweep at Mount Pleasant Go Station.

It actually seems like they went and gathered almost all the exact fixtures they took down, except took out the Unidoors Sad

Could've been a free trial or something that Cree offered so the old fixtures were saved and reused for when the trial ended (with ones that were damaged or not working being replaced with new ones). GE did that back in the 60s for mercury vapor lighting I believe.

Don't think this stretch was a free trial as the city is actively in a changeover contract and they are appearing all over the place.
But oddly enough, years ago select residential streets got cree'd which seemed like a trial promo that enticed the city to use their lights city wide.

Yeah if thats the case I wonder if the other few residential streets that got Cree's still have them. Maybe they got the wrong wattage up on the crees and need to downsize?
m@   [Jun 09, 2018 at 06:59 PM]
I'm ruling out wrong wattages and defective as they probably would have put new LEDs up. Seems the city really didn't want the LED's on this stretch because of reconstruction planned 5 years from now.

Speaking of wrong wattage, those from a few years ago on Knightsbridge Dr and Central Park Dr were super dim, but stayed up lol.
I think the cree pilot projects all remained.

I didn't know Cree offers free trials for their fixtures. Laughing

Yeah they started making the first appearances here in late 2016 in a few places. Didn't really take off until this May.

Back in 2011, Markham did some test installs with various brand LED lights which might have been a free trial. They converted over the Philips LED fixtures but I think there's still one test fixture left in my neighbourhood that was missed out.

Over they have been spot replacing dead LEDs with FCO AEL HPS lights, dead wireless controls seem to be replaced with plain old PCs.
